Details of the offer

The Regulatory Operations Group (ROG) has responsibility for achieving safer and healthier workplaces within its jurisdiction. As an effective national regulator, it does this by promoting continuous improvements in work health and safety practices and monitoring compliance with the law. Using a risk-based approach, the Group plans and implements an integrated program of continuous improvement and compliance activities to target issues or entities across the jurisdiction that pose the most significant risk to health and safety of workers. Services are delivered across the country through employees working in regional offices in QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS, SA, NT, WA and ACT. In order to manage the WHS risks associated with Major Projects regulated by Comcare, a Major Infrastructure Projects team has been established. The Major Infrastructure Projects Team will provide enhanced oversight and prevention-led interaction with major infrastructure and other complex construction projects. This involves application of a risk-based framework that ensures appropriate engagement is undertaken throughout key stages of the major project life-cycle, with particular focus on high-consequence hazards. Overview of the Role As an Inspector in the Major Infrastructure Projects Team, you will undertake a range of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulatory activities in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and procedures under minimal direction and supervision. The work includes WHS-related prevention programs, campaigns, health and safety audits, stakeholder engagement, presentations, inspections, and investigations across major construction projects in the Commonwealth jurisdiction. The role delivers and assists in driving the provision of timely, high-quality services in a nationally consistent, regional service delivery environment. The role requires working as a team, mentoring less experienced inspectors, and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders including employers, workers, complainants, Health and Safety Representatives, employer associations, unions, and federal and state government agencies. Mandatory Qualifications/Experience Previous WHS, investigation or work in a regulatory environment experience of 3 years or more in the construction industry. Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment Character clearance (police records check). Health clearance. Six months probationary period for new engagements. Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance. Special Conditions: Achieve and maintain appointment as an Inspector under the WHS Act.
