The opportunity we have available The Geospatial Services Section is a dynamic and highly motivated team looking to a vacancy for a Senior GIS Developer at the APS6 level.
The team is crucial for maintaining geospatial data assets, metadata and platforms for business areas in the department to make informed decisions for program funding initiatives and to gain insight into complex issues across Australia.
We have a very diverse range of stakeholders providing a variety of complex, diverse work which provides a challenging and rewarding career path.
A merit pool may be established to fill vacancies for similar roles in the department over an 18-month period.
As a Senior GIS developer, you will develop and maintain our existing geospatial systems and databases.
You will monitor, maintain and enhance automation processes which exist for data capture, data transformation and reporting systems.
You will support the team with the creation of geospatial products and tools within the software development life cycle process, providing technical expertise and complying to departmental standards.
This work is essential in supporting a multitude of projects across the department.
The successful candidate will contribute to a positive hybrid team environment, work cooperatively and collaboratively with team members, and develop productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure positive outcomes and a client-focus.

Skills, attributes and experience required for each role include: The role is suitable for candidates with strong (minimum 3 years) IT Developer skills keen to work in geospatial technologies.
Experience in a support role familiar with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and the Change process in a complex environment, full stack development or backend webservice interdependencies will be well regarded.
Demonstrated experience developing processes working with geospatial data and leveraging related software applications, particularly Arc GIS Pro, Portal for Arc GIS and FME.
Ability to contribute to a positive hybrid team environment, work cooperatively and collaboratively with team members, and develop productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to effectively communicate with influence insights and issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrated proficiency working in one or more of the following environments: Python particularly arcpy, Arc GIS Portal or SQL.
Obtain and maintain Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
Preferable software platforms ESRI's Arc GIS Desktop, Enterprise and Cloud (Arc GIS Online) Microsoft technologies for Client, Server and Cloud SQL Server databases Desirable software platforms FME Form and Flow, QGIS, Survey123 azure dev Ops and git azure services ASP.

Health Assessment: the preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department's preferred medical provider.
Security Clearance: the successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Negative Vetting 1.
You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.
You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances.

Qualifications: Formal qualifications in geospatial related discipline and/or extensive industry experience in a related industry.
