Position Summary The Community Services Group (CSG) develops, maintains, and analyses national data to support monitoring and reporting of:
The health and welfare of key subpopulations, including older Australians, people with disability, and victims and perpetrators of family, domestic and sexual violence. Use of services within a range of health and welfare sectors, including community-based services focused on aged care, disability, and family, domestic and sexual violence. Pathways and outcomes for the general population, key subpopulations and health and welfare service users. The Ageing and Aged Care Analysis Unit (AACAU) reports on a range of topics relevant to ageing and aged care, including the health and well-being of older people, unmet needs for aged care services and access to aged care; the interface between health service use and aged care, the aged care workforce; and the National Aged Care Mandatory Quality Indicator Program that monitors the quality of care in aged care services.
The AACAU is looking for an experienced Senior Data Analyst (ASP6) to undertake a range of statistical analyses, including complex analysis using linked health (e.g.
hospitals, MBS, PBS, deaths) and aged care service data, statistical modelling of quality indicators, and the analysis of survey data.
The successful candidate will be required to use SAS and/or R statistical package(s).
Previous experience with analysis of complex and/or large datasets for either health, aged care, hospitals or health systems data is desirable.

Responsibilities Undertake analysis of linked hospitals, MBS, PBS, deaths and aged care services data for a project investigating interface of hospital use by older people with aged care services. Undertake descriptive analytical methods (e.g., distributions, proportions, rates). Undertake complex statistical methods (e.g., multivariate regression, generalized linear modelling and other data modelling techniques). Write up statistical methods and findings for report content and explain data and analysis concepts you have undertaken to others (verbally and in writing). Assist in presenting data outputs in tables, web pages, reports, and dashboards. Be responsible for the delivery of tasks to deadline. Be a team player and work effectively to the project lead and with other team members. Contribute to the planning, organising and managing of projects. Liaise and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies as required. Selection Criteria Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and knowledge:
Demonstrated experience and advanced skills in analysing complex health-related (and/or aged care) data sets using statistical software (SAS and/or R), such as analysis of large, linked datasets, time-to-event analysis, regression and statistical models, and analysis of survey sample data. Demonstrated attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and reliability in data processing and analysis. Demonstrated conceptual and analytical thinking, including the ability to contribute to the development of data analysis methodology and project plans. Ability to synthesise complex information from a range of sources and present these in various written and verbal formats, including ability to contribute to the writing of briefs and reports. Demonstrated ability to work independently and to effectively plan, manage and prioritise one's workload and escalate issues when required. Well-developed communication skills including ability to work well with others in a project team, and to communicate, liaise, and negotiate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders within the scope of the role. Qualifications in epidemiology, biostatistics/statistics or other analytic disciplines are highly desirable.
Previous experience working with aged care data and/or in ageing and aged care research, and/or in hospitals data/health systems will be well regarded.
