The Role The Safety Analysis Manager performs a strategic role within the Regulation and Advocacy Directorate through scanning, investigating and analysing safety-related issues and legislative developments within a maritime context. They are responsible for researching, analysing and engaging with external subject matter experts to determine possible safety consequences and regulatory impacts applicable to the Defence maritime community. This role requires high-level analytical and critical thinking skills with an ability to engage with a wide range of people both internal and external to Defence. Responsibilities include:
Develop and maintain an understanding of international and domestic safety regulatory frameworks and how these frameworks impact on the Defence maritime community.
Monitoring, researching and analysing safety matters that may potentially impact Defence maritime capabilities, activities and the regulated community and propose recommendations and regulatory options.
Liaise with stakeholders to investigate and gather relevant information and understand policies and legislation in the context of maritime environment to achieve strategic outcomes.
Exploring and developing options for responding to inquiries from the regulated community.
Provision of subject matter expertise to support broader organisational regulatory, policy, assurance and compliance activities.
About our Team The Office of the Defence Seaworthiness Regulator (ODSwR) is an independent Defence Regulator. The ODSwR is tasked with managing the Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSwMS), a Defence-wide maritime risk management system. It does this through:
Scanning the maritime environment and advocating on behalf of Defence.
Providing a regulatory framework to manage maritime risks.
Assuring maritime risks are proactively considered and controlled.
Monitoring trends across the Defence Enterprise.
Providing support to the Defence maritime community through education and advice.
