Position Description: APS6 Project Officer

The APS6 Project Officer is accountable under limited direction to undertake complex work guided by legislation, policies, procedures, standards, methodologies, and precedents. This position is a team leadership role and has delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across a range of activities. It will provide leadership, control, planning, resource management, performance management, and decision-making for the Team Membership within the assigned Work Area.
The APS6 Project Officer will provide detailed technical, professional, policy, and operational support and advice in relation to complex problems. Responsibilities may include coordinating and assisting in strategic planning, program and project management, and policy development that supports the agency's objectives.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Developing and managing project plans and schedules in accordance with the Agency's project management framework.
Providing specialist advice and technical expertise to staff and stakeholders.
Performing independent research and analysis, including the preparation of draft reports on relevant project activities.
Coordinating regular project reporting, including status updates and exception reports.
Preparing draft written material, including business cases, plans, executive briefs, and corporate documentation.
Monitoring project budgets, reviewing and reporting on expenditure, and assisting with procurement and contract management.
Identifying and assisting with the management of project risks, issues, and benefits.
Contributing to project quality management to ensure that project deliverables are fit for purpose and meet client needs.

Working Environment:
Working in an open office environment (exposure to general workplace chatter).
Occasional work from home.
Working in a team and hot desk environment.
Managing demanding and changing workloads and competing priorities.
Significant periods of sitting at a desk.
Attending external locations offsite, including participants' homes (which may have multiple stories or be accessible only via uneven ground, stairs).
Operating a telephone/computer and performing computer/screen-based work.
High levels of phone usage and face-to-face interactions.
Attending meetings for extended periods.
Exposure to noisy conditions.
Driving vehicles in varying conditions, including remote locations on unsealed roads.
Manual handling (lifting and carrying items up to 15 kg).
Requiring mobility over uneven terrain in all weather conditions.

Emotional Requirements:
Dealing with confronting and complex situations and information.
Managing conflict and challenging conversations.
Providing empathy.

Information Technology and Security:
Pre-Engagement Check: A mandatory pre-employment security screening process for individuals with non-public access to agency resources.
Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) clearance may be required for access to classified information.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and client records management systems (CRM).
