APS 6 Aviation Policy Officer Role
The APS 6 Policy Officer will contribute to the design and implementation of a legislated Aviation Industry Ombuds Scheme. This role will require critical thinking, research, and collaboration with the aviation industry, consumer bodies, and other government agencies to develop policies that effectively deliver the government's commitments.
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement:
Close consultation with external stakeholders.
Design and deliver consultation processes and supporting documents.
Policy Analysis:
Analyze the costs and benefits of potential policy and implementation options, including policy impact analyses.
Advisory Drafting:
Draft advice to inform government decision-making and assist government communication (e.g., ministerial briefs, meeting briefs, and correspondence).
Legislation Support:
Collaborate with relevant agencies to inform the drafting of supporting legislation, regulation, and standards.
Project Management:
Ensure the delivery of initiatives within government-agreed timeframes.

Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Well-developed communication skills, including strong written communication.
Willingness to be flexible and adaptive to meet government priorities and urgent tasks as needed.

Highly Desirable Skills and Experience
Project management skills.
Experience in drafting instructions to guide the development of legislation and regulation.
Experience in the development of policy/regulatory impact analyses.

Deliverables
Key deliverables in the 6-month period will include:
Contributing to drafting instructions for legislation on key matters assigned by the team within required timeframes.
Preparing research analysis and briefing material as required to inform policy development and decisions.
