The opportunity we have availableThe Protective Security team holds a crucial responsibility in overseeing the department's physical and personnel security obligations under the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
Our primary mission is to safeguard the department's people, information and resources from potential threats which could detrimentally impact the Australian Government's and/or the department's productivity and reputation, as well as the safety of our employees.
We employ a comprehensive approach to security, ensuring robust protection through close collaboration with key stakeholders, including cyber security, property, WHS and fraud.
This integrated effort allows us to address and mitigate diverse security risks efficiently.
In this role, you will provide advice to the Agency Security Adviser, Director of Protective Security and other stakeholders regarding evolving Personnel Security threats impacting on the department and/or changes to security policies, frameworks, and mandates.
You will oversee the management of eligibility and suitability screening processes in accordance with the Departmental Protective Security Policy, Protective Security Policy Framework and the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency's security clearance requirements.
You will manage a small team and the department's Pass Office function.
What will you do?The key duties of the position include:
Implementation of the Protective Security Policy Framework, including pre-employment eligibility and suitability screening, short-term access and security clearances waivers, ongoing suitability of employees, and ensuring separation procedures are undertaken.Managing a small team and diverse workload and competing priorities in a busy environment, while providing high quality, customer focussed services.Liaison with key stakeholders to develop and refine internal policies and processes relating to the management of personnel.Complex case management of personnel at risk of breaching security requirements, including working closely with People Branch and the Chief Information Security Officer.Developing standard templates and internal procedures for staff to implement and follow.Undertaking administrative support activities including, but are not limited to: managing the pass office, the security breach database, and developing internal communications artefacts including review and update of intranet content.Developing new, and updating existing, Security policies and work instructions.Delivering travel briefings to departmental and ministerial staff travelling for business purposes.Assisting in contract management processes relating to external providers.Undertaking audits, drafting briefs, preparing reports and recommendations and responding to parliamentary questions on notice.Who are we looking for?The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate their capability against the APS6 Work level standards.
