Overview

Who We Are
Join Environment Information Australia in the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, producing key environmental information on our natural assets, and championing the use of a range of data and information in decision-making to protect Australia's natural environment, now and into the future.
The Environmental Economics, Science and Reporting (EESR) Branch within EIA includes EIA Strategy, State of the Environment reporting, Environmental Economic Accounting and the National Environmental Science Program. The branch delivers quality evidence through data, reporting and scientific research (traditional and contemporary) to support national and international reporting, environmental management and decision-making.
The State of the Environment Section plans and manages the conceptualisation, design, delivery and promotion of regular State of the Environment (SOE) reporting with the involvement of scientific and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge experts. We focus on how to make credible and usable information on the environment public and accessible, so that SoE reporting is a valuable tool to support evidence-based decisions that benefit the Australian environment.
The Job

Support the preparation and implementation of the SoE Indigenous engagement plans, including underpinning frameworks and guidance such as for cultural security and safety.
Liaise and support Indigenous contributors and the identification and inclusion of Indigenous indicators and reporting.
Engage and network with a broad range of stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, industry groups, Indigenous organisations, Traditional Owners and Communities.
Develop resources to support best-practice Indigenous partnerships in environmental reporting.
Organise and support meetings of expert and interest groups.

What We Are Looking For
Knowledge and Experience

Experience working with a broad range of Traditional Owners and Indigenous communities.
Experience and ability in communicating to an Indigenous audience.
Experience facilitating meetings and workshops in a culturally appropriate way.
An understanding of Indigenous knowledge and cultural values in engagement with Country.
A passion for the environment and/or heritage.

Skills and Capabilities

Outstanding stakeholder liaison skills and cultural awareness.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong organisational and secretariat skills and ability to work independently within defined boundaries and to tight deadlines.
An ability to adjust to changing priorities and work collaboratively.

Eligibility

Citizenship: To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.
Security Clearance: This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Pre-employment Check: Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.
