$91,702 - $104,753 + 15% BDCP + up to 15.4% Superannuation Reid - ACT The Role As an APS 6 ICT Security Advisor, you are expected to have a broad range of cyber security, policy and/or ICT system administration skills, experience and knowledge to equip you for the responsibilities of the role.
The role itself entails various duties including but not limited to, researching and providing advice, guidance, assistance and leadership on contemporary Australian Government and Defence cyber and protective security policies; and the development and maintenance of cyber security related policies specific to Defence.
Duties of the role may also include: Consulting with clients in the development, deployment, documentation and management of security policies, procedures, standards, and strategies; Develop and, where applicable, monitor, direct, correct and report on implementation of policy and procedural outcomes to provide assurance of compliance and/or achievement of policy intent; Conducting research, analysing and interpreting information from various sources to inform cyber security policy considerations; Manage and Audit the Privileged access of Defence strategic networks – Accounts Management, and Active Directory; Support Defence ICT security senior leadership to monitor, direct and correct – all aspects of system security management/health - Active Directory, Group Policy, access management, firewall rules, improvement initiatives, etc.
); and Undertake security assessments on complex technical ICT issues and formulate timely and accurate advice to Defence executives.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP).
This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability.

About our Team At the Directorate of ICT Security Management (DICTSM) our mission is to positively influence and strengthen the security posture of Defence ICT systems through provision of leadership, guidance, direction and, the proactive identification, analysis and remediation, or mitigation, of ICT system vulnerabilities.
As the whole-of-Defence cyber security service provider, the Directorate of ICT Security Management provides leadership, direction, governance and management services for the Defence cyber security capability.
DICTSM positively influences and strengthens the security posture of Defence ICT systems through the proactive identification, analysis and remediation or mitigation of ICT system vulnerabilities.
DICTSM provides advice and guidance to inform risk based assessments in the development, deployment and maintenance of secure Defence ICT systems and capabilities.
Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate will: Have deep subject matter experience in security policy development and maintenance and Cyber Security principles; Be able to technically understand Australian Government protective security policies and provide guidance, advice and direction to a diverse user, practitioner and executive base; A robust understanding of Australian Cyber Security frameworks and standards.
A working knowledge of Defence protective security policy would be an advantage; Experience working in a Cyber Security discipline or in security policy development within an Australian Government setting; Practical experience in ICT system administration would be desirable; Strong critical thinking skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines; Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure; Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders; Demonstrated experience in producing clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation; Proactive nature and ability to anticipate issues in the sector or with stakeholders to ensure success and resolve problems; and Capability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
