We are seeking experienced and qualified APS 6 Historians to work within the Community Engagement's History Team and Anzac Portal Team.
The History Team creates commemorative and historical resources to share with the broader community, to raise awareness of the diverse experiences of Australian military service.
The Team supports the entire department, departmental executive, and the Minister in this work, and provides departmental services including speech writing, fact checking, and professional guidance on representing military history matters.
The History Team runs projects and programs, such as developing commemorative posters and calendars, managing the acquisition of images, veterans' oral history project, VC and VCfA travel program, and a program researching, drafting and publishing books on Australia's wartime history.
The Portal Team manages the design, development, maintenance and promotion of the Anzac Portal website.
The website delivers commemorative, historical and educational resources to share with the broader community, to raise awareness of the diverse experiences of Australian military service.
Key user groups include secondary school students and senior Australians.
Under the Australian Government Digital Service Standard, DVA must present all digital information in accessible language that everyone can read and understand.
This means following the Australian Government Style Manual for plain language and style and complying with the latest version of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
The standard applies to the Anzac Portal, its newsletter and assets, such as online history books and teaching resources.
Under limited direction of the Assistant Directors, the Historians in the History and Portal teams are responsible for the provision of specialist support and advice to their teams and across the department.
Through this role you will be required to liaise with DVA staff, ex-service organisations, veterans and their families.
Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication, high level research skills and be able to manage a variety of competing demands.
In the History team, a Masters or PhD qualification focusing on an aspect of Australian military history is highly desirable for this role .
In the Portal team, experience as a digital content writer is highly desirable for this role .

Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months.
A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
