We have APS 6 opportunities available across a range of finance, procurement and budget policy focused roles.

DFAT invests in the professional and technical capabilities of our people, and you will consolidate a credible record of achievement in:
Leading and contributing to the preparation of strategic policy, budget and financial management advice to portfolio Ministers, the Cabinet, and other Commonwealth agencies to inform Government decision-making and the approach to policy implementation
Effective stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills through daily engagement with stakeholders across Government (both in Australia and overseas)
Assisting Government to consider portfolio proposals in collaboration with the Department of Finance, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and the Treasury
Supporting the costing of new policy initiatives and analysing financial estimates for major portfolio programs
Numerical capability and financial acumen
Applying whole-of-government policy and frameworks.
Most roles will require the ability to work additional hours outside of standard hours during peak periods such as the End of Financial Year and delivering the Federal Budget.
We offer flex-time and overtime provisions to ensure our people are appropriately remunerated for all additional hours worked.
The initial vacancies to be filled from this process are based in Canberra.

Our ideal candidates will show us that they have:
Solid skills or experience in one or more of the following topics:
Finance, including accounting, financial analysis, or financial/accounting policy advice
Procurement and grants
Budget development and management
Policy development and implementation.
Strong research and analytical capabilities, including an ability to evaluate and interrogate information to ensure the accuracy of advice, reports and data in systems
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an ability to collaborate and contribute to the development of influential financial, procurement or budget policy advice to the Government or internal stakeholders
Drive and initiative to apply themselves to manage competing deadlines, including when providing supervisory support to junior staff
Emerging leadership skills and a commitment to constructively contribute to diverse teams.
For some roles the following qualifications or specialist skills are desirable:
Qualification as a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
A Diploma/Cert IV in Procurement and Contract Management
Strong Microsoft Excel skills
Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of IT Systems associated with budget and procurement management (for example: SAP and CBMS).
