Our client is seeking to engage an APS6 Copy Editor and Technical Writer. Location: Canberra, ACT Contract Length: 12 months Pay rate: $60.26/Hourly (excluding super) Eligibility/Security Requirement: Applicants must be Australian Citizens About the Team The Corporate Publications Team in the Strategic Communications Division is responsible for copy writing and editing key corporate documents for the Agency. The team centrally manages delivery of corporate documents like the Annual Report, Corporate Plan, Quarterly Reports and Annual Financial Sustainability Reports from drafting, to design and release. Additionally, the team is responsible for communications planning, including risk analysis, stakeholder engagement, supporting documentation, accessibility, and content creation for internal and external channels. The team utilizes policies, procedures, and standards through a centralized governance function About the Role The APS6 Copy Editor and Technical Writer is accountable under limited direction to undertake complex work that is guided by legislation, policies, procedures, standards, methodologies and precedents. The position has reasonable autonomy and accountability to exercise both initiative and judgment to interpret legislation and policy, in the application of practices and procedures to achieve outcomes within the functions. The APS6 Copy Editor and Technical Writer is required to provide detailed technical, professional, policy, operational support, and advice in relation to complex problems. Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: Copy editing and proofreading corporate documents in line with the Australian Government Style Manual and internal style guides and standards, ensuring content accuracy and writing style consistency. Overseeing quality assurance of corporate documents ensuring they follow Agency standards for accuracy, clarity, and consistency. Working with subject matter experts and project managers to create accurate and consistent content to meet the expectations of intended audiences. Conducting internal research to articulate business objectives through corporate reporting document narratives. Identifying opportunities to drive the adoption of new processes focused on continuous improvement of consistency and accuracy in corporate writing. Creating and updating technical guidance documents, procedural guides, project plans and governance frameworks. Regularly conducting reviews and evaluation of published content to ensure relevancy. Creating communication materials focusing on user experience, ensuring that complex Agency information is presented and meets plain English and accessibility guidelines for diverse audiences. Assisting in the management of reports processes and communications outputs. Desirable skills to have for the role: Exceptional editing, proofreading and writing skills. Demonstrated experience editing, proofreading and writing for corporate documents. Familiarity with the Australian Government Style Manual and experience using and applying the standards to technical writing and/or experience in using and applying similar standards. Highly developed editorial, grammatical and comprehension skills. Understanding of and ability to draft accessible and inclusive content. Exceptional attention to detail. Strong organizational and planning skills. Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated initiative, reliability and ability to work unsupervised. Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office suite. Ability to work cohesively with a small team.
