$83,706 - $89,659 + up to 15.4% superannuation Cairns - QLD The Role We are seeking a high performing, motivated and enthusiastic APS 5 Waterfront Project Support Officer (WPSO) to join the Pacific Patrol Boat Systems Program Office (PPBSPO) team.In this role, you will contribute to providing sustainment services to the Pacific Division (PAC DIV), in the sustainment of the Guardian Class Patrol Boats (GCPB), Pacific Patrol Boats (PPB) and Small Landing Craft (SLC).Your sound trade and / or relevant industry knowledge, excellent communication and interpersonal skills will have a direct impact on delivering capability to participating Pacific Island Nations.This role requires a high level of trade and / or maintenance experience, preferably from a maritime environment, to support quality management and assurance of vessel maintenance.Proven experience in vessel slipping, maintenance activities, set to works and sea trials is desirable.The WPSO will act as a Maintenance Activity assurance officer and vessel refit subject matter expert within PPBSPO with responsibility for tracking key milestones through the vessel maintenance activity.The WPSO is expected to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant internal and external stakeholders.The WPSO will provide assurance of the PPBSPO Technical Support Network to ensure vessel compliance with relevant classification and safety requirements and assist in ensuring the delivery of high quality services and maritime products to participating Pacific Island Nations.The successful candidate for this position will be required to work variable hours within an office and shipyard environment, and must possess the ability to work autonomously within the limits of their competence and delegation.This position will involve frequent overseas travel, requiring team work within a small group of technicians, and an ability to remain focused on an overall strategy of support to a highly diverse range of Nations, Cultures and vessels.The role will require a level of physical fitness to undertake vessel inspections, conduct outdoor work and participate in sea trials on board vessels.About our Team Since the 1960s, Australia has undertaken a range of capacity-building and engagement activities in the South Pacific and Southeast Asia under the Defence Cooperation Program.The Centrepiece of Australia's Defence engagement in the South Pacific is the Pacific Patrol Boat (PPB) Program, which involved the gifting of 22 Pacific Class Patrol Boats between 1987 - 1997 and the current PPB replacement program, which will provide 22 new Guardian Class Patrol Boats to participating Pacific Island Countries.Recognising that the boats are sovereign assets of the participating nations, Australia is committed to providing a range of engineering, technical and logistics support services to ensure the ongoing operational capability of the Pacific Patrol Boat fleet, which is provisioned through the Pacific Patrol Boat Systems Program Office.Your role in the delivery of Waterfront Support for the fleet provides a vital input to maintaining capability for Pacific Island Countries.Our Ideal Candidate As a WPSO within the PPBSPO team, you will work in a dynamic and diverse environment requiring a number of key competencies: Analysis: You will be adept in reviewing and analysing maritime technical information, consulting resources and documentation for clarity, make judgements and have the ability to think objectively and systematically.Communication and stakeholder engagement: Your ability to effectively communicate, build and sustain relationships and manage stakeholder engagement will be a key strength and critical to your success in the role.Writing and reporting: You will be someone who can write clearly, succinctly and correctly, structuring information and convincing through writing.Your strong ability in analysing, synthesising and presenting technical information and data in a clear and concise manner, will aid key decision making.Apply expertise & technology: We are looking for people who can apply, develop & share their specialist and detailed maritime technical expertise, whilst also understanding other associated disciplines and how they relate to one another in the context of maritime sustainment and maintenance.Learning & research: Ability to learn rapidly, gather and understand information quickly, and ensure an organisational learning approach.Following instructions & procedures: Working within the Defence environment, you will be someone who can follow procedures and instructions, showing a commitment to compliance with safety, policy and legislative requirements.You will have high attention to detail, along with a strong sense of self-management, the ability to manage tasks and prioritise appropriately.Information Pack Opens in new window
