The Veteran Support Officer (VSO) – Affirmative Measures Indigenous – will form an integral part of a team with establishment and functioning of embedded DVA services on military bases, with a particular focus on providing culturally appropriate services for current and former serving Indigenous veterans. VSO presence on ADF bases will act as a hub for DVA VSOs to work from, delivering a high level of personalised service in accessing support and services from DVA.

The VSO must have a good appreciation for veterans and veteran's family individual circumstances working to providing expert advice at the right time with an ability to translate this into guidance for next steps in achieving business as usual arrangements with DVA. The VSO must present well, be highly professional, have the ability to understand cultural needs and barriers, and an ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholder and veterans.

This recruitment process is being used to fill ongoing and/or non-ongoing position/s. For more information about the role, please see the Candidate Information Pack.

Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to18 months. 

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.

Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
