The Senior Payroll Officer works within the payroll team who are responsible for day-to-day payroll processing, including salary and entitlement calculations, within a medium sized agency comprising of staff engaged under the Public Service Act 1999 (Cth) and through statutory appointments governed by the Remuneration Tribunal.

The role is responsible for the day-to-day processing of payroll transactions with strict deadlines as well as assisting the Payroll Services Team Leader with the distribution of work across the team to ensure the delivery of high-quality payroll services and advice to the AEC.

The role will also undertake more complex payroll activities such as leave audits, calculation of over/underpayments, redundancy calculations, superannuation, calculation of leave liabilities, taxation queries and assisting with running of fortnightly payrun. This role reports to the Payroll Service Team Leader.

Key position responsibilities; Ability to interpret and provide advice to staff on salaries and related entitlements, leave and general conditions of service in line with the Enterprise Agreement and related legislation, policies and procedures.Knowledge of calculating entitlements for staff, including commencements and cessations, while producing and maintaining records associated with payroll processing.Ability to make decisions within defined parameters and set new precedents based on sound subject matter knowledge, professional judgement, governed by legislation, regulations, best practice principles or relevant operating instructions and procedures.Take responsibility to organise own workflow, assist with distribution and monitoring of work and timeframes amongst team and is accountable for the autonomous completion of allocated tasks.Mentor, coach and identify training needs for the team and encourage career development of less experienced employees.Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed from time to time. About You As the APS5 Senior Payroll Officer, you will; Have the ability to communicate effectively while liaising with stakeholders, providing accurate advice and assisting to resolve issues across a geographically dispersed network.Effective time management skills, ability to work under general direction, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines seeking support from supervisor where required.Demonstrated personal integrity whilst delivering solution-oriented outcomes within legislative and policy parameters.Knowledge, or ability to acquire knowledge of payroll, workforce reporting and/or general HR practices, policies, procedures and practices.Experience with Aurion and TechOne.
