APS 5, APS 6 & EL 1 Legal Officer/Senior Legal Officer - Commercial LawThe Legal and Audit Division in the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) has a number of opportunities for Legal Officers (APS5 and APS6) and Senior Legal Officers (EL1) to join the Corporate Legal Branch.The Corporate Legal Branch is a specialist in-house legal practice that supports the department's objectives by advising on the management of legal risks. It comprises a number of teams that provide advice and services in commercial, property, employment, and other corporate law matters.We are looking for candidates who have strong technical legal skills, can communicate clearly and persuasively, can manage competing priorities, enjoy working collaboratively, and have a positive attitude.DutiesAs an APS5/APS6 Legal Officer you will:Deliver accurate, clear, helpful, and timely legal advice and services to departmental clients in commercial, property, and/or employment law matters.Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in Legal and business areas, and with external stakeholders.Contribute to the setting of the direction of work priorities and practices, monitoring workflow, and sharing learning.Further professional legal expertise through participation in development, training, and study opportunities, and meet Continuing Legal Education requirements and other expectations.In addition to the above, as a Senior Legal Officer (EL1) you will:Supervise, mentor, and coach junior staff.Support leadership of the Branch and Division, including through promoting a positive working environment and contributing to corporate leadership activities.Mandatory RequirementsMust have a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree (or equivalent) from a recognised Australian tertiary education provider.Must be admitted as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia and must possess, or be eligible to obtain, a practising certificate.This recruitment process is being used to fill ongoing and/or non-ongoing position/s. For more information about the role, please see the Candidate Information Pack.Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months.
