APS5/6 Oversight and Assurance Officer/Advisor, Various Locations Position Type: Ongoing/Non-Ongoing | Full-time/Part-time About the roles
Working as a team, Oversight and Assurance Officers/Advisors champion the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) well-established 'Excellence in Compliance' (EiC) strategy and collectively support ACIC operational activities and inspection of agency records by ensuring the ACIC complies with legislative requirements governing the agency's use of covert and intrusive powers.

As an Oversight and Assurance Officer/Advisor you will have, or develop, expert knowledge of relevant provisions of the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 (TIA Act), Surveillance Devices Act 2004 (SD Act) and 1AB Crimes Act 1914 (Cth) (Crimes Act).
This knowledge will enable you to deliver on the ACIC's regulatory compliance strategies, policies and procedures and contribute to the improvement of systems and databases that deliver record-keeping and compliance outcomes, perform quality assurance and regular audit functions, undertake project work and regular reporting requirements.

Oversight and Assurance Advisors will directly engage with key internal stakeholders and oversight bodies, including the Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman (Ombudsman) and the Office of the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security (IGIS), to enable operational activities and facilitate inspections of ACIC records, whilst Oversight and Assurance Officers will perform administrative and engagement activities in support of inspection and reporting requirements.

We are seeking to fill a number of future positions that will become available across all teams within the Oversight and Assurance section.

To be successful in this role at the APS level 5, you will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

Well-developed verbal and written communication, problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong interpersonal and liaison skills, including the ability to nurture and strengthen productive internal and external working relationships. High level organisational skills with an ability to work with limited supervision and deliver within tight timeframes. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow record-keeping procedures and use information management systems. To be successful in this role at the APS level 6, you will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

Highly developed verbal and written communication, problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong interpersonal and liaison skills, including the ability and capacity to lead, develop and maintain productive internal and external working relationships, including the ability to collaborate, consult and share information credibly with different parts of an organisation to encourage support for compliance outcomes. Highly developed and or a desire to develop leadership skills, with the demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire others within their own team and across an organisation, modelling the APS values. Exceptional organisational skills with an ability to make sound judgements to deliver operational and strategic outcomes, under time pressure and with competing priorities. Excellent attention to detail and capacity for methodical and meticulous work outcomes, including the ability to follow record-keeping procedures, conduct compliance checks and use information management systems. Ability to think strategically, informing and contributing to decision-making at senior levels, to improve business operations in alignment with agency goals. Highly desirable attributes Demonstrated understanding of the role and functions of an intelligence or law enforcement agency. Demonstrated understanding and experience applying relevant legislation, government policy and operational practice. Background in compliance, audit and/or assurance functions. Eligibility Citizenship – To be eligible for employment with the ACIC, applicants must be an Australian citizen. Security Clearance - The Australian community expects ACIC employees to maintain the highest levels of security and integrity.
Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
