We are currently looking to engage passionate and enthusiastic individuals of all ages, genders, and backgrounds who want to embark on a rewarding journey as an Apprentice Fitter/Machinist.
Komatsu Underground will support you as you undertake four years of nationally recognised training, completing your Cert III – Engineering (Mechanical), while being paid to perfect your skills in our state-of-the-art workshops.
You will gain hands-on experience in all things Mechanical, equipment maintenance, rebuilds, and equipment assembly, as well as having access to a range of other learning and development opportunities to support your career both personally and professionally.
As an Apprentice Fitter/Machinist, What will I learn? Work using a variety of machine tools and precision instruments to cut, shape and finish materials to create parts and components designed for the range of Komatsu Underground mining equipment including Miners, Longwalls, Roof Supports and Shuttle cars. Learn the use and operation of callipers, micrometres and gauges, computer numerical control (CNC) machines, Lathes, Milling and drilling machines, and grinders. Assemble, test, rebuild, and repair mechanical components of Komatsu's range of underground mining equipment including miners, longwalls, roof supports and shuttle cars. Troubleshoot mechanical issues on a range of specialty areas including hydraulics, machining, gearboxes, and electric motors with a rotation plan allowing you to see each workshop in detail throughout your 4-year apprenticeship. Read machine schematics and detailed equipment drawings. Implement and follow comprehensive safety processes and quality control measures. Gain skills and competencies on a range of hand tools, business skills, public speaking, and leadership. What we require from you: A genuine interest and passion for all things mechanical fitting and machining A willingness to learn and a strong attention to detail. Driver's License and access to your own reliable transport to and from site. An interest in the Komatsu Underground business and our cool equipment.
