The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for-profit community-based organisation that includes: Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA, and Narmbool, the Australian Centre for Rare Trades and Arts, and the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections. It cares for a nationally and internationally significant collection of over 150,000 objects and protects the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Victorian gold rush.
We are an Australian tourism icon that attracts some 500,000 visitors annually. The Outdoor Museum is internationally renowned as a living museum featuring rare trades, and programs and experiences that interpret a pivotal point in Australia's history. In all, some 350 staff work to bring our gold-rush story to life, supported by over 250 volunteers.
Job Description:We are seeking a hardworking, committed, and eager Apprentice Carpenter to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced craftsman to understand and master the skills needed within this trade. This is an exciting opportunity to do meaningful work, contribute to the maintenance and refurbishment of one of Australia's most celebrated tourist destinations, and grow a rewarding career.
Responsibilities include:Assisting senior carpenters in planning, designing, and executing various carpentry projects.Learning to read and understand blueprints, sketches, and building plans.Measuring, cutting, and shaping wood, plastic, and other materials.Constructing wooden structures such as frames, floors, and walls.Maintaining a safe and clean workspace, and complying with all health and safety regulations.Attending and completing all necessary training modules, on-the-job training, and other qualifications as required.Assisting with the maintenance and repair of the historical structures within the museum association property.Operating both hand and power tools with safety and precision.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent.Some experience in a relevant trade or construction would be preferable.Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy, and attention to detail.Exceptional listening and communication skills.Strong mathematical skills are necessary for calculations and measurements.Ability to follow established safety rules and regulations, maintain a safe and clean work environment.Physically able to stand for long periods, climb, kneel, and carry heavy objects.Ability to work well within a team, as well as independently when necessary.Employees of Sovereign Hill Museums Association are provided with opportunities for continuous growth and development, working in a friendly and supportive environment.
