The Business Development Director is responsible for leading the business development team across the region, driving business growth and the strategic expansion of Applus+. The Business Development Director will work closely with technical teams, senior management, and marketing to develop and execute strategies that expand the company's client base and market presence.
Your key responsibilities in this role include:
Strategic Growth and Business Expansion:
Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with the company's goals and objectives. Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities, including new markets, services, and client sectors. Monitor industry trends and market developments to adapt strategies accordingly. Client Relationship Management:
Establish and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients, ensuring the company meets their needs and exceeds expectations. Serve as a key point of contact for major clients, addressing their needs and providing solutions to ensure long-term partnerships. Drive client retention and satisfaction through high-quality service and engagement. Proposal and Contract Management:
Lead and oversee the preparation of proposals, bids, and presentations for new business opportunities. Negotiate contracts, service agreements, and pricing with clients in alignment with company objectives and in support of the Applus+ Commercial Manager. Collaborate with legal and technical teams to ensure compliance and proper execution of contracts. Team Leadership and Collaboration:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., engineering, project management, marketing, operations) to ensure alignment of business strategies with operational capabilities. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team. Marketing and Brand Positioning:
Work closely with the marketing team to enhance brand visibility. Develop and execute marketing campaigns, conferences, and client presentations that promote the company's expertise and service offerings. Market and Competitor Analysis:
Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify competitive advantages, risks, and opportunities. Stay updated on competitors' activities, trends, and developments to inform strategic decisions and maintain a competitive edge. Financial and Performance Accountability:
Set and manage annual sales targets, budgets, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for business development activities. Report on the performance of business development initiatives, providing insights and recommendations to senior management. About you
You will ideally have the following skills and experience:
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, Business, or related field. A master's degree (MBA or relevant) is preferred. 8+ years of experience in business development, sales, or a similar role within the engineering, consultancy, or professional services sector. Proven track record of successfully driving business growth, developing client relationships, and achieving sales targets. Strong understanding of the testing, inspection, engineering and consultancy services within Infrastructure, Mining, and Construction end markets, including industry trends, regulations, and client needs. Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills. Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing high-performance teams. Ability to think strategically and translate strategy into actionable plans. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Strong networking and relationship-building skills. Understanding of technical and operational aspects of engineering and consultancy services. Proficiency in CRM software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite. About the business
