Head of Construction, Australia
The Head of Construction, Australia will be responsible for the strategic development, client management, and growth of the construction sector portfolio across Australia.
This senior leadership role involves close collaboration with regional country management to select, train, and develop staff, ensuring the highest service standards for the Construction and Infrastructure (C&I) client base.
What the day will look like
As a Head of Construction, you will be maintaining strong relationships with senior decision-makers within C&I clients and aligning Australia construction operations with the company's regional (Asia) and global construction strategy.
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the construction sector across Australia, aligned with the company's overall goals;
Identify new business opportunities and provide thought leadership on emerging construction trends and risks;
Lead initiatives to expand the company's market share in the construction industry.
Client Engagement:
Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key construction clients, including developers, contractors, and government entities;
Provide high-level consultancy and advisory services, ensuring clients receive tailored risk management and insurance broking solutions;
Collaborate with account teams to ensure client retention and growth, overseeing service delivery and client satisfaction.
Team Leadership & Development:
Lead and mentor a team of construction insurance specialists across large and mid-market client segments, promoting a high-performance culture focused on client service and business results;
Drive talent development initiatives to enhance the team's expertise in construction risk and insurance;
Uphold and reinforce the company values and compliance standards through leadership.
Product & Market Development:
Work with product development teams to create innovative insurance products and solutions tailored to the specific needs of the construction sector;
Stay abreast of market trends, construction regulations, and new technologies to ensure the company offers innovative solutions;
Liaise with underwriters, reinsurers, and other industry team members to negotiate optimal terms and coverages for clients;
Partner with country and regional management and service teams to deliver the widest range of products and services available for the C&I client base, improving opportunities for interdependency across the company geographies and solution lines;
Collaborate with other Industry Specialties and Specialty Products, particularly with Natural Resources, where continued cooperation and teamwork with the Leader of Natural Resources is necessary.
Financial Performance:
Oversee the revenue performance of the construction portfolio in Australia, and with geography leadership, achieve C&I budgets and business plans.
A critical aspect of the role includes face-to-face client engagement, including collaborating and interacting with the leadership and broader Aon teams.
Whilst the role offers hybrid working, it is anticipated that the majority of your working time would be onsite at the designated Aon office.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in the insurance industry, with a significant portion focused on the construction sector
Proven experience in a leadership role, managing teams and driving business growth
Strong knowledge of construction risk, insurance products, and market trends in the Pacific region
Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
Critical thinking and business development attitude
Strong leadership and team management abilities
Client-focused with a deep understanding of construction industry challenges
Ability to navigate complex risk environments and deliver innovative insurance solutions
Financial acumen and experience managing revenue budgets and working with geography leaders on P&L contributions.
