Katherine, Northern Territory 0850, Australia • Full-timeDescriptionPosition Summary:The Venndale Alcohol and Other Drug Rehabilitation service is a 42-bed facility that provides opportunity for change and recovery for adult men and women with a primary focus on alcohol and other drugs, including volatile substance misuse, health management and life skills. The 12-week program includes access to a therapeutic program, resources, services, workshops, individualised recovery plans and continued care. Venndale uses a culturally appropriate approach to support participants to build on existing strengths and capabilities, the program aims to re-empower through increasing a client's abilities to manage their lives, well-being and to make informed decisions that directly affect their health and lifestyles. The AOD counsellor will provide to clients and other Venndale employees the support required to facilitate recovery and rehabilitation from drug and alcohol misuse, AOD specialist information and inhouse training. Provide individual and group interventions, support the delivery of the Core Program and the therapeutic component of the Aftercare program. Provide specialist consultation in the assessment of participants. Facilitate referral pathways, liaise with clinical services, and attend meetings as required. Work with the AOD staff as necessary to support them in the management of challenging behaviours, intervene when necessary to de-escalate situations and provide counselling support to the participants.Overseeing programs and functions:Provide and co-facilitate evidence based therapeutic programs in collaboration with the AOD team.Provide evidence-based therapeutic brief or counselling interventions to participants both over the phone and face to face providing recovery focused AOD interventions that support harm minimisation.Assist to develop group counselling sessions to meet the needs of the service and participants.Support the Aftercare program in collaboration with the aftercare coordinator including the facilitation and delivery of group sessions.Participate in the Assessment/intake review panel.Maintain participant files and case notes as per legislation and Venndale's policy and procedures.Contribute to the development of Venndale staff.Provide specialist advice and input to service evaluations and reviews to ensure continuous quality improvement.
