Animal Welfare VeterinarianExciting casual opportunity for a qualified Veterinarian to join the Animal Research Space at Sydney University Casual role starting ASAP HEO7 Step 1 $74.73 per hour + 11.5% superannuation About the opportunity The casual Animal Welfare Veterinarian is responsible for delivering a comprehensive suite of veterinary services, including emergency care to animals in research.
They will provide essential veterinary support to animal researchers, animal care staff, and the animal ethics committee, ensuring high standards of care and animal welfare.
They will also play a key role in educational initiatives, including the creation and deployment of educational resources, and the development of the training and competency framework.
A can-do attitude in supporting the researchers and animal care staff while advocating for research animal welfare is essential for this role.
The Animal Welfare Veterinarian (Part time - casual) works under the broad supervision of the Animal Welfare Veterinarian, as a member of the Animal Welfare Veterinary team in Research Integrity and Ethics Administration (RIEA).
They perform tasks independently to deliver against goals and choose appropriate methods of work while planning and prioritising tasks.
They are a subject matter expert and provide advice as the first point of contact for their expert area, collaborating with others to resolve complex matters.
Your key responsibilities will be to: Provide assistance, support, and advice as required for day-to-day operations within the animal research space.Provide advice to researchers and ethics committee members on Animal Ethics Applications.Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and contractual requirements.Promote animal welfare and responsible use of animals in research and teaching across the university.Provide veterinary services to research animals, including preventative care, diagnostics, disease investigation, treatment, and necropsies.Develop and deliver identified training for researchers, ethics committee members, and relevant staff and students.Schedule and conduct inspections of research facilities and prepare reports for the Animal Ethics Committees.Perform any other relevant ad hoc work as required.About you Must possess a veterinary degree to apply.Must be registered as a veterinarian in NSW (or have the ability to become a registered veterinarian in NSW).Knowledge of the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.Experience in veterinary hospital or busy animal practice, providing a range of veterinary services.Experience providing veterinary services in an animal research environment (preferred).Ability to work as a collaborative and cooperative member of a team.Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritise workload, and work independently under pressure.Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable in a changing environment.Sponsorship / work rights for Australia Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
This role requires valid work rights for Australia.
