The Africa Business Unit manages four operations in Tanzania, Ghana, and Guinea producing in excess of 1.1 Moz per year. The Business Unit Technical team is a small, dedicated team of technical and operational specialists based in Australia who provide direct support to the operations.

Reporting to the Senior Manager: Mining (Africa) , the Manager: Open Pit Mining (Africa) provides tactical and operational support that delivers maximum value for AngloGold Ashanti's operating assets and projects in Africa in a consistent manner with the Company's Vision and Values. This role includes all activities related to Open Pit Mining, Planning, and Strategy.
The role also provides direct output support to both Site and Regional business units in the identification and adoption of relevant discipline strategy, provision of competent technical support to the operations, provision of governance/assurance, and representation of AGA on all matters relating to the discipline including the interaction and benchmarking with peers in the industry.
This position requires on-site presence with quarterly travel to the operations. Applicants should be prepared for international travel. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to be based in Perth and have the ability to travel and work in Ghana & Tanzania in diverse and challenging operations.
Accountabilities: Provide expert tactical technical support and consulting services for the Africa Business Unit's assets. Drive and coordinate the Open Pit LOM process within Africa through leading and assisting sites with mine planning, mine designs, schedules, and annual budget preparations as required. Mentor and develop Open Pit Mining teams within Africa to be competent in managing risks in the company. Provide input into the Technical Africa BU annual budget as well as providing support (and reviewing as required) to the operations, including cookbooks. Lead projects/studies or a major component of a project/study and interact with sites, project management teams within Africa BU, and consultant service providers to deliver the project to the required specifications within budget and on time. Provide support to sites, BU, and Commercial team for the annual rate review process as a SME for Open Pit Mining and provide input into tender evaluations. Provide support and facilitate processes with Open Pit Mining experts to develop benchmark metrics, reports, and standards for performance measurement. About You

A degree qualification in a relevant mining-related discipline or other. At least 10 years relevant experience in the mining industry. Minimum 5 years' experience in site-based open pit mining operations. Expert mine planning skills including optimization, design, and scheduling. Ability to act as QP for Mineral Reserves. Sound practical understanding of the entire mining value chain. Demonstrated capability in organizing work, setting priorities, and exercising sound independent judgement. Strong track record of practical implementation of analytical tools and analysis. Demonstrated strategic and analytic thinking. A capacity for financial decision making and risk management. Experience working in an expatriate role and demonstrated capability and willingness to explore and embrace different cultures. Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with people at all levels within the organization. The ability to obtain a National Police Clearance. Existing and ongoing valid Australian working rights (Mandatory). Culture and Benefits
