Company Description Anglo American Steelmaking Coal
Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description Aquila Mine are seeking a Relief Undermanager on a full-time, permanent basis with Anglo American. The Relief Undermanager coordinates all activities on a shift-by-shift basis with a crew covering seven days per week and executes the underground shift plan while ensuring statutory compliance is maintained.
Reporting to the Compliance Superintendent, you will be responsible for providing the safe, efficient delivery and coordination, control, and statutory compliance of activities across all sections of the operation on a shift-by-shift basis. You are required to monitor, consult, and make decisions to ensure delivery of plans as outlined by managers and peers while complying with the AAOM (Anglo American Operating Model).
Your key responsibilities are, but not limited to:
Coordinate mining activities to deliver operational targets safely, optimally, and in accordance with the annual mine plans. Providing technical support and advice to the Mining Senior Officials (MSO), Process Superintendents, and the UMM on means to optimise safety, operational improvement, availability, and reliability. Take statutory responsibility for all roadways within the areas assigned District and complete the statutory inspection reports as required by CMSHR. Deliver on all planned tasks and implement corrective actions as required to meet planned tasks. Complete shift handovers with incoming & outgoing Deputies, listening to and sharing pertinent information to feed into daily plans, with a view to supporting continuity of safe, responsible production across all shifts. Lead, monitor and mentor deputies and supervisors and identify areas for improvement. Monitor all work activities in the areas of quality and safety, making sure that safety management tools and work instructions are understood and followed. Participate in mine site productivity and process improvement programs, and more generally to find and raise improvement ideas in areas such as safety, production, cost and efficiency. Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all site interactions and take full ownership for safety on site. Qualifications To be successful in the role you will have the following:
Extensive experience working within the underground coal mining industry with demonstrated understanding of the coal mining process and the relevant mining legislation. Possess or successfully undertaking study of Second Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency (Undermanager RII50920: Diploma of Underground Coal Mine Management). Queensland Deputy or (1st or 2nd) Certificate of Competency or NSW Deputy Certificate with Mutual Recognition. Current First Aid Certificate – Minimum Provide First Aid. Current RIIIS301 – Apply Risk Management Processes (S1). Current RIIOHS301 – Conduct Safety and Health Investigations (S2). Current RIICOM301 – Communicate Information (S3). Current RIIRIS402 – Carry out Risk Management Process (G2).
