Company Description Our Safety, Health and Enterprise Risk team's objective is simple - for everyone to go home safe and well, every day. Anglo American Steelmaking Coal Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description Moranbah North Mine are seeking a Health and Hygiene Officer to join the site Safety & Health team on a full-time, permanent basis with Anglo American. The Health and Hygiene Officer will provide services and support the execution of key occupational health and hygiene processes at the Operation, by providing support to the Site's Occupational Health Superintendent and Occupational Hygiene Specialist, as well as the broader Site Safety and Health team.
The Health and Hygiene Officer will support injury management, fitness for work and medical surveillance programs, management of workplace health exposures, occupational hygiene sampling plan and risks and health and wellbeing promotional and prevention activities and programs.
The key responsibilities are, but not limited to:
Support the Occupational Health Superintendent in the execution of the Operation's injury management and workers' compensation processes. Support the Occupational Hygiene Specialist in the coordination of all aspects of the Site's onsite occupational hygiene sampling program, including contractor onboarding, entering sampling schedules into necessary planning systems, escorting contractor/s onsite, issuing letters to individuals following period of sampling. Support the Occupational Health Superintendent in the management of Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme Health Assessments, including reviewing and escalating higher risk cases to Occupational Health Superintendent in line with site protocols. Support the execution of the onsite drug and alcohol management program, including ordering of drug and alcohol testing supplies, reviewing medication declarations form and escalating at risk cases to the Occupational Health Superintendent. Provide advice on injury classifications in accordance with Anglo American definition documents. Act as a systems administrator for site Hazardous Substances IT management system (e.g., ChemAlert). Maintain appropriate stock/inventory and calibrations for first aid supplies and first aid facilities. Facilitate site health programs such as fit testing program and prescription safety glasses program. Ensure application of safety and health principles in all operational and non-operational interactions. Ensure compliance with Anglo American requirements. Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in a Health Sciences related area. Experience in a similar Occupational Health role, preferably in Resources or Mining industry. Certificate of Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (desirable). Demonstratable knowledge of health risk management principles and implementing continuous improvement. Demonstratable knowledge of legislative requirements relating to health in Queensland Coal Mining industry, including the Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme and Recognised Standards applicable to health and hygiene. Ability to prepare and review reports and procedures.
