We are looking for an Analytical Chemist to support the daily operation of a Bauxite and Wastewater Laboratory.
You'll be part of a friendly and inclusive team, supported by your leader to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team.
You can commute to site directly from Cairns, Darwin or Brisbane so you can grow your career while continuing to enjoy the lifestyle you choose.
If you don't currently reside in one of these locations, we'll provide full relocation so you can enjoy the incredible lifestyle.
You'll stay on site for the duration of your roster with your own room equipped with TV, bar fridge and ensuite.
The mess offers extensive menu options to suit most dietary requirements and there are a wide range of activities to keep you entertained after your shift such as group activities, gym and a large new outdoor common area.
Reporting to the Laboratory Specialist and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Laboratory, you will: Lead instrument commissioning, ensuring recognised standard methods are implemented where available, Validate methods and determine associated measurement uncertainty.
Document findings in a Technical Report.
Create/update procedures and methods, Create and implement preventative maintenance strategies for all laboratory instrumentation and equipment that directly contributes to the accuracy and precision of a result, Troubleshoot instrument and equipment issues, including erroneous results, Provide coverage of Laboratory Specialist, Technical Officer and Laboratory Officer when required, Support Laboratory and Technical Officer training and development.
About you To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: A Commitment to the safety of yourself and your team, A Bachelor of Science degree, major Chemistry (or related discipline) A minimum of 5 years laboratory experience in an industrial environment, A strong understanding of quality assurance and control process, The ability to manage time effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision, The ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and equipment that is not operating correctly, along with erroneous results, The ability to carry out statistical analysis, Strong technical report writing skills, A strong understanding in the use of MS Excel, A current manual driver's license, Full working rights in Australia.
Whilst not mandatory, the following would be advantageous: Experience working within a NATA accredited laboratory, Experience operating and maintaining an ICP-MS and XRF.

Where you will be working Our Gove Operations have been supplying the global aluminium industry with world-class bauxite for more than 40 years.
Located in Australia's Northern Territory, each year the operation produces approximately 12 million tonnes of bauxite.
With a workforce of 460 people, daily activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, shutdown planning and execution, export operations, cultural heritage management, and closure activities following our decision to close the site's alumina refinery and associated Residue Disposal Area in 2017.
We expect our bauxite mining operations on the Gove Peninsula will cease in 2029 and we are undertaking significant work to support closure of the operation.
We also recognise our operations take place on Indigenous-owned land, and we are committed to working together to achieve a positive future for Nhulunbuy and the Gove Peninsula post-mining.
