Job Description
Location: Melbourne | CBD
Job type: Ongoing - Full Time
Organisation: Department of Transport and Planning
Salary: $76,817 - $93,275
Occupation: Accounting

Investment and Technology is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, and provides investment strategy and delivers commercial and information technology services to drive high performance and improved commercial outcomes for the State.
Investment Strategy within the Portfolio Management Office is responsible for ensuring the effective allocation of resources across transport and planning projects and initiatives. This involves collaboration across the Department to ensure resourcing implications are considered during policy, planning and development phases and that there is a robust investment strategy to inform future funding advice and decision making.
This role is largely carried out through the coordination of the portfolio's submission for the annual State Budget process, including the prioritisation of initiatives for investment, review of business cases to ensure alignment with transport policy and planning and close engagement with central agencies and Ministers to streamline decision making.
We're focused on outcomes that deliver more choice, connections and confidence in our travel, ensuring the whole transport network works as one to deliver better services and outcomes.

About the Role
Working as part of a small team, you will provide authoritative, articulate, and strategic advice on investment strategy to Ministers and the department executives, to support decision-making on budget funding priorities and options. You will maintain a short-medium term view of the department's priorities for funding through the State budget, advise on the timing, sequencing and packaging of investment decisions, and develop robust strategies for securing required funding and resolving risks and issues. You will also provide guidance and advice to support the development of robust business cases for proposed investments.
In this role, you will work closely with colleagues within the Division, and with stakeholders across the Department and central agencies. The team works in a dynamic environment where priorities can change very quickly. This role requires being able to quickly adapt and respond to these changing priorities.

Position Outcomes
The successful candidate will provide expert analysis and strategic advice on transport budget and investment strategies to senior officials, while liaising with internal stakeholders to support issue tracking and resolution. You will assist in preparing high-quality reports and budget submissions, develop effective tracking systems, and work collaboratively within the team to ensure robust transport investment planning.
