AEMO's forecasting division is responsible for providing medium and long-term forecasts of Australia's energy supply and system services adequacy.
The team is responsible for delivering critical insight that underpins many of our major studies, reports, and reliability processes.
The studies are used both internally and externally to support decision making-around reliability and system security assessments, major investment transactions, policy, regulatory, and other activities.
The role would suit a person from an economics, commerce, finance, mathematics, and engineering background, and who has confidence in interpreting data (validating and cross checking) when drafting technical reports.
About the role The role is to provide analytical support to the delivery of key projects that inform debate and/or drive change within the energy markets and to deliver insightful analysis on the energy markets which AEMO operates.
The person in role will also undertake modelling and analysis of the development and performance of electricity and/or gas markets and communicate outcomes/insights.
Persons in the role are expected to be developing expertise in active communication, analytical tools and modelling techniques, while seeking opportunities to support and participate in more complex tasks and projects.
What you will be doing  Operating AEMO's market modelling process.
Providing analytical, programming, modelling and data management support to activities within the team.
Document results and draw key conclusions using clear and concise language that is understandable to a diverse audience.
Maintain quality documentation to capture improvements to procedures and processes.
Manage the delivery of assigned work to agreed timeframes and quality as provided by senior staff and other team members.
Participate in all safety activities, including but not limited to briefings, training, or any other activity that promotes health and safety within the workplace.
What you will bring to the role  Education/ Certificates Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Economics, Commerce, Finance or Engineering.
Experience and Knowledge Experience working with PLEXOS or other energy market simulation software.
Experience working with analysis tools such as MS Office suite, SQL, R, VBA, Python, Power BI, databricks, and PowerBI.
Strong quantitative analysis capability utilising databases and spreadsheets to design and run data analysis.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to draw out conclusions from modelling results.
Able to work across several projects simultaneously, at times with minimal supervision.
Sound knowledge of energy market principles, NEM, WEM, or gas markets dispatch process, generator behaviour, network constraints, and power system operation.
