ASPI Analyst – Hybrid Threats – Cyber, Technology & Security Program ASPI is seeking a motivated and talented individual to join our Cyber, Technology & Security (CTS) Program as an Analyst – Hybrid Threats, focusing on critical issues related to disinformation, foreign interference, and emerging security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

About the Role ASPI is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join the Cyber, Technology & Security (CTS) program as an Analyst – Hybrid Threats. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the Indo-Pacific's leading think tanks, focused on advancing policy and research on hybrid threats, disinformation, and emerging security challenges.
The Analyst will work closely with the Senior Analyst – Hybrid Threats and the broader CTS team, supporting policy-oriented research, stakeholder engagement, and capacity-building initiatives. This role involves contributing to the analysis of hybrid threats and information manipulation, including election integrity, resilience of critical technologies, and cybersecurity.
ASPI regularly collaborates with the Australian government, international partners, the private sector, and civil society. The Analyst will play a vital role in supporting research projects, writing reports, and engaging with stakeholders to address pressing hybrid threats in the Indo-Pacific region.
The CTS program focuses on key issues such as disinformation, foreign interference, and resilience-building for critical technologies and infrastructure. These efforts are achieved through rigorous research, policy briefs, public events, and expert commentary. The Analyst will assist in advancing this mission, contributing to the delivery of high-quality outputs and supporting external engagements.
This role is ideal for an early-career professional passionate about hybrid threats, cybersecurity, and technology-enabled security challenges. The Analyst will thrive in a collaborative environment, working with senior colleagues and external partners to produce impactful research and events.
The key duties of the position include:Duty Statement Research and AnalysisSupport research on hybrid threats in the Indo-Pacific, focusing on disinformation, foreign information manipulation, election integrity, and critical technology resilience.Assist in analysing regional threat-sharing and resilience models to inform policy recommendations.Contribute to the drafting of policy-relevant reports, decision briefs, and presentations tailored to various audiences.Stakeholder Engagement and Capacity BuildingAssist the Senior Analyst in building and maintaining relationships with regional stakeholders, including governments, think tanks, and private-sector entities.Support the planning and execution of multi-stakeholder consultations, workshops, and training sessions.Represent ASPI in forums and meetings, contributing to discussions on hybrid threats.Project Development and SupportCollaborate with the Senior Analyst on designing and developing the business model and operational concept for the Indo-Pacific Hybrid Threats Centre.Provide administrative and research support for ongoing projects, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.Contribute to drafting funding proposals and engaging with potential funders alongside the Senior Analyst.Team CollaborationWork closely with the Senior Analyst and other team members to develop innovative approaches to hybrid threat analysis and response.Provide input on research methodologies and outputs to maintain ASPI's standards for rigorous, non-partisan analysis.Engage in regular team discussions to ensure alignment with ASPI's strategic priorities.Minimum Requirements:
Demonstrated interest or experience in hybrid threats, disinformation, foreign interference, or related security issues.Familiarity with Indo-Pacific security dynamics, particularly non-traditional security challenges.Ability to work effectively in a team environment, contributing to joint projects and research initiatives.Strong writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex topics into clear, concise content.Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.Capacity to adjust to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.Desired criteria:
Experience assisting in stakeholder engagement or capacity-building activities.Interest in technology-enabled security challenges, such as cybersecurity or critical infrastructure resilience.Familiarity with research tools, data analysis, or managing datasets.Experience drafting policy briefs, reports, or other high-quality written outputs.Remuneration will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
ASPI has headquarters in Canberra, Australia and an office in Washington DC, USA. This role is Canberra-based.
