A vacancy exists for a full-time permanent position with the National Union of the AMWU in our Granville, NSW office.
PRIMARY ROLE STATEMENT The purpose of this position is to provide paralegal, research and administrative support to the AMWU's National Research Centre (NRC) Legal Team in Granville.
This is a small team consisting of the Senior Research Coordinator, Industrial Relations Officers and Legal Research Officers.
This position will be instrumental in the litigation of national matters that affect the manufacturing sector, as well as supporting the work of the team in arguing for changes to legislation and Modern Awards to benefit working people.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS This position reports directly to the Senior Research Coordinator.
Other key relationships include the National Secretary, State Secretaries, Assistant State Secretaries, National and State employees, Fair Work Commission, other unions, ACTU, and State / Territory / Federal Government personnel.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Paralegal and Research Support Manage and coordinate industrial and legal requests through the NRC team inboxManage and coordinate the Legal Matters and Advice Register for the NRCPrepare and lodge applications, discontinuances and other documents in the Fair Work Commission and Federal Courts systemPrepare Court Books, Tender Bundles and related documents in Court and Commission mattersUndertake legal research including company searches and relevant case authoritiesSupport the National union's enterprise bargaining through the preparation and lodgement of notices for industrial action and the approval documents for enterprise agreementsEnsure all documents are filed in accordance with regulatory obligations and AMWU policiesAssist with research and drafting submissions to Parliamentary Inquiries and Modern Awards mattersLiaise with members, AMWU officials, legal practitioners, other unions and Court and Tribunal staff as requiredOther duties as directed as within the level of skill and experience of the officer involvedAdministrative Support Manage both the teams and individual legal officers' diaries in relation to AMWU related mattersArrange legal officers' travel when on AMWU business interstateCoordinate the NRC's reporting requirements to AMWU governing bodiesAssist other National Teams with administrative support when requiredMaintain National Right of Entry Permit Register Maintain and monitor the AMWU's Register of National Right of Entry Permits including updating the Register when new permits are issuedLiaise with relevant officers and staff in States concerning upcoming expiry of permits for state officialsLiaise with relevant National Officials concerning the application for new permits and the return of expired permitsOther: Any other duties as directed by the National President or National SecretaryOther duties as directed as within the level of skill and experienceAdministration of the AMWU subscription service databaseSELECTION CRITERIA (ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE) Essential Minimum two years of tertiary study in law, industrial relations or human resources management or equivalent experience in a legal or trade union roleDemonstrated high level interpersonal and communications skills (oral and written) with experience drafting correspondence and reports.Demonstrated ability to organise information as well as an awareness of industrial legal processes and the importance of timeframes and attention to detail.Ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders and deal efficiently and tactfully with sensitive and confidential matters.Proven organisational skills and ability to prioritise own workload and to use sound judgement, managing competing demands and deadlines and delivering high quality outcomesAbility to work well in a small team environmentHigh level of computer literacy and advanced proficiency in Microsoft suiteDemonstrated ability to handle sensitive information.Desirable Previous experience in a similar roleExperience using Adobe AcrobatAbility to obtain a Right of Entry permitA driver's licenceSALARY AND CONDITIONS: Type: Permanent, full-time.
Salary: Level 1 – $75,080.20
Superannuation: 1% above SGC
