The organisation:When people talk about the Flying Doctor, thoughts generally turn to red-bellied planes undertaking rescue missions in the Outback. Our history, however, is heavily based in Victoria with four of the major founding figures hailing from remote and rural communities across the state. Furthermore, the first ratified Section of RFDS was Victoria, after a formal constitution was signed at Melbourne Town Hall in 1934.
The current Victorian story reflects today's challenges for people living in remote and rural communities across the state, yet remains faithful to the original philosophy of "connecting people with care". While we do still transport people by air and by road, this work is complemented by delivering a range of primary health services that address the most common issues people living in country Victoria face when accessing health care.
Key responsibilities of the role include:Perform patient assessment and intervention on-roadProvide high quality patient care and treatment during on-road transportDevelop and maintain positive working relationships with patients and stakeholdersAssess the effectiveness of any intervention in accordance with all RFDS MPC guidelines, NEPT regulations and within prescribed scope of practicePerform independently and problem solve within established policies and proceduresWork collaboratively with other team membersMaintain an understanding of RFDS MPC policies and procedures and NEPT regulations to support best practice and patient outcomesQualifications and experience required:Diploma of Paramedical Science (Ambulance), orBachelor of Health Science (Paramedic), orOther equivalent qualification for Ambulance Officers recognized by RFDS or DHHSEvidence of successful completion of required clinical placements and a Clinical Skills Assessment, completion of a minimum of 400 hours operational stretcher experience under the direct supervision of a clinical instructor, successful completion of clinical skills assessment (e.g. stage 8), orRegistered Nurse in the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia who has completed an appropriate bridging course for practice in the non-emergency patient transport sectorExperience working in the NEPT sector in an equal role desirable but not essentialHold a FULL Victorian Drivers licence and have the ability to drive in both city and country traffic conditionsAvailability to work across a 7-day 24-hour rosterWhat can working for RFDS offer you:Work for Australia's most reputable charity (11 out of 12 years) and most trusted charity (last 3 years)Work for your community providing high-quality non-emergency patient care in an organisation committed to staff and patient safety and wellbeingGenerous penalties and overtime allowancesAccess to salary packaging for all employees, including our casualsA less stressful environment than in emergency/pre-hospital careSupported opportunities to work at different locations across the stateGreat parental leave benefitsOptions to work across specialist resources such as high acuity, complex patient care vehicle, and with our Non-Emergency Patient Transport aeromedical teamAn ideal steppingstone if you are considering a career in pre-hospital emergency care or as a nurse or paramedic practitioner2:1 staff to patient ratioMandatory vaccination policy:As part of the application process, you will be required to provide evidence of the following vaccinations:
