Sixa Resources are seeking an Alternate General Manager for an exciting opportunity to be part of the restart and expansion of a small-tonnage iron ore mine, with a five-year growth plan. This position is integral to managing the operational, regulatory, and logistical aspects of the mine as it scales up production, while acting as the General Manager's representative when needed.
Key Responsibilities: Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day mining operations, ensuring safe and efficient production in line with the restart plan.Regulatory Approvals: Manage and navigate the approvals process, including mining licenses, environmental permits, and water management compliance.Water Management: Develop and implement strategies to manage water resources effectively, including sourcing, use, and disposal.Safety Leadership: Enforce safety standards and foster a strong safety culture across all areas of the operation. Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.Decision Making: Act as a decision-maker in the absence of the General Manager, with the authority to solve immediate challenges on-site, ensuring that operations continue smoothly.Problem Solving & Innovation: Use a creative, solutions-oriented mindset to overcome the unique challenges of restarting an iron ore mine. Be proactive in addressing operational issues and anticipating potential roadblocks.Team Leadership: Lead a diverse team, promoting a collaborative and results-focused culture. Actively mentor team members and ensure that the workforce remains aligned with the long-term strategic objectives.Long-Term Planning: Assist with developing the mine's five-year growth plan, including budgeting, resource allocation, and scaling production.Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and community representatives, ensuring alignment with project objectives and local requirements.The successful applicant will be required to have: Experience: Proven track record in managing mining operations, particularly in iron ore. Experience in mine restarts or new projects is highly desirable.Leadership: Strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to fill in for the GM and take ownership of critical decisions.Problem Solving: Ability to think outside the box and resolve problems creatively and efficiently.Safety Focused: Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and health protocols.Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with all levels of staff and stakeholders.Understanding of Mine Planning: Familiar with long-term mine planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.Mindset: Must think like an owner, always considering cost-effectiveness and long-term viability when making decisions.Roster:
The roster is negotiable but will likely be 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off, allowing for both hands-on leadership and sufficient downtime. Flexibility is expected depending on the needs of the restart project.
Remuneration:
A competitive salary package will be offered, commensurate with experience and the responsibilities of the role.
