This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Associate front-end Construction Lawyer to join a well-established mid-tier practice, offering a blend of high-value and complex projects with a more casual and flexible environment.
This team punches above its weight, regularly advising on $billion+ projects. They have a stable of clients that include some of Australia's largest developers and contractors, as well as public-sector panel clients. There is a strong level of client loyalty due to consistent excellence in service delivery, with many clients using this team exclusively for more than a decade.
Recent matters include drafting, negotiating, and advising on construction-related agreements for CBD towers and hotel developments in Melbourne, roads and infrastructure for major greenfield projects in Victoria, and Energy projects (solar, wind and battery storage) around Australia.
As a Senior Associate, you'll have the opportunity to work on contracts across the project lifecycle, including design and construct, construct-only, tender documents, professional service agreements, and operation and maintenance agreements. There are several juniors in the practice, but this is a more top-heavy team with a low-leverage model. The clients value the hands-on input from Seniors in the team, and as a SA you will have a high degree of client-facing responsibility.
There are three Partners in this practice who will provide mentoring and guidance while supporting your professional development. There is an open door for technical advice on matters, but the intention is to recruit an experienced practitioner who can run matters relatively autonomously – the mentoring focus is more about teaching you the non-technical professional skills needed to step up to Partner.
The firm does not have a flexible working policy — that is, there are no mandated two or three days per week in the office or from home. Everyone is treated as an adult, and you have the autonomy to decide how to best perform your role. During the initial period in a new role, there is naturally an expectation for some face-time, but once you're up and running, it's up to you how you best work.
