Position objective
The purpose of this role is to manage all activities associated with the almond orchard to achieve performance targets.
The Property General Manager runs the day to day operations and continual improvement of Rijami Farms almond orchard.
The Property General Manager performs supervisory and management functions for the business, oversees crop operations and runs aspects of administration of the business.
Activity and responsibility profile The primary activities of this position include but are not limited to:
Managing farm operations to prepare, operate and supervise orchard activities Maximizing employee and machinery performance to maintain tree growth, health and yield Managing field operations, including tree maintenance and the application of herbicide, foliar, fertigation and other chemical sprayings Liaising with the Irrigation Manager to monitor plant water usage and fertilizer inputs and adjust delivery programs to crop requirements to maximise crop and tree growth potential Liaising with the Manager of Rijami Estates to collaboratively manage operations of Rijami Estates.
Liaising with the Workshop Operations Manager to deliver on the planned maintenance program for all farm non-fixed assets Supervising and managing a team of permanent, casual and contracted staff Ensuring trees are consistently monitored for pest and disease and any issues are proactively addressed Risk management, incident management, reporting and injury management Ensuring personnel are organised appropriately so that harvest and other operational activities on farm are completed within required timeframes Ensuring orchard management records are accurately captured and reported Maintenance and presentation of records and systems for audit; performing functions required by industry regulators to ensure compliance and industry standards Liaising with industry representatives, advisors and consultants Stock management, ordering and inventory Organising quotes and tenders Organising and liaising with harvest sub-contractors Organising repairs and service for machinery and plant, ordering parts Monitoring performance and processes for continuous improvement Organising transport of product with Almondco and transport companies Animal and plant control, liaising with regulators and neighbouring properties Organising licenses and certifications; registrations and permits Managing staff training and development Organising collection / drop off of goods, supplies or items in and around the Riverland and occasionally Mildura for the employer Other duties as required Qualifications and experience profile The following qualifications are necessary for this position:
Current driver's license (must have) Chemical handling certificate High risk work license – forklift First aid certificate Firearms license Chainsaw operation and maintenance training Chain of Responsibility training Work Health and Safety due diligence training The following skills or experience are necessary for this position:
Minimum 5 years experience managing an almond orchard or similar agricultural/horticultural operation Crop consciousness, the ability to understand crop requirements in all conditions and act appropriately; Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to liaise with contractors and agricultural consultants; Strong leadership skills in order to provide guidance and direction to staff and suppliers; The ability to problem solve and troubleshoot; A strong understanding of farm machinery operation and maintenance; The ability to record and report on farm operations Good written and verbal skills The following qualifications are desirable for this position:
Experience managing Almond Orchards and maintaining the health of almond trees Working conditions The employee may be required to work reasonable additional hours outside the 38 hour week average or agreed work cycle including weekends in order to meet the operational requirements of the business.
The employee may be required to oversee staff or contractors working outside the 38 hour week, including weekends and at night.
The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
Physical work may be involved requiring a level of physical fitness to be able to dig, bend, kneel, lift and squat for extended periods of time.
Renumeration Rijami Farms is a family owned business established in the 1990s, and is situated in the Riverland, South Australia 20km from Renmark.
It comprises 390 hectares of almonds across two properties within 7km of each other.
$115,000.00 per annum plus superannuation, a fully maintained vehicle, mobile phone and laptop.
