Control Room Operator Purpose & Accountabilities:
The role involves performing operational and maintenance tasks at the power station to achieve safety, environmental, and business targets.
Core Accountabilities Demonstrate competence and be formally authorized to fulfill roles within the permit-to-work (PTW) system, including Issuing Authority, Isolating Authority, or Performing Authority during maintenance or modification work. Plan work associated with the asset area according to the Preventative Maintenance (PM) Program and execute routine maintenance tasks, including resourcing work orders and performing maintenance. Operate the power station from the control room to meet Trading and Network requirements, conducting systematic inspections to ensure reliable operation, addressing abnormalities, and raising defect work orders as needed. Ensure rigorous adherence to all safety and environmental protection systems and procedures. Apply expertise to identify, investigate, and rectify plant issues or escalate through work orders. Respond to operational and maintenance needs with professional analysis and judgment. Collaborate with peers to share knowledge and ensure the application of best practices. Develop and review site-based management plans and operational instructions. Provide primary input to the asset management plan, focusing on safety and asset integrity. Reports to the Power Station Supervisor. Dimensions Key Internal Relationships : Power Station Supervisor, Production Technicians, Operations Group, Corporate Services, and other teams within the organization. Key External Relationships : Statutory authorities, government departments, suppliers, contractors, and community members. Skills & Requirements Experience Needed Experience in the operation of large interconnected industrial plants. Competency in isolation and safety system management. Desirable Skills & Attributes Core qualification in Electrical and/or Instrumentation. Boiler Intermediate or Advanced (BI or BA) and Open Turbine (TO) Operator Certificates. Certificate III or IV in ESI Generation (Operations). Certification in confined space and working at heights (RTO-certified). Competency in first aid, CPR, resuscitation, and LV rescue. Expertise in power plant operation, maintenance, CMS, and asset management systems. Proficiency in PTW systems, including mechanical and HV electrical isolations. Ability to work independently and manage the entire station. High-level multitasking, self-motivation, flexibility, decisiveness, and resilience. Additional Information Work may involve heights, confined spaces, and varying atmospheric conditions. Local travel arrangements are required.
