The opportunityASIO is seeking to fill various Security Assessor positions at the AE4, AE5 and AE6 (APS4, APS5 and APS6) levels to support our critical mission.As an ASIO Assessor you will be triaging and assessing time sensitive information from multiple sources; supporting Government decision making through provision of Security Assessments; or responding to time critical threats as they arise. You will be engaging widely, internally and externally, and operating in a complex security environment to deliver rigorous, defensible intelligence assessments.Assessors provide a critical capability to ASIO and directly contribute to ASIO's mission. As an ASIO Assessor you will strive to achieve best practice in the delivery of unique intelligence advice to Government in support of ASIO 's mission. You will support ASIO's core vision and purpose – to protect Australia from violent, clandestine and deceptive efforts to harm its people and undermine its sovereignty.
The key duties of the position include:Role responsibilitiesAs a Security Assessor, you will: Undertake checks and inquiries to progress and inform security assessments.Exercise judgement to determine additional checks required to resolve or mitigate security indicators.Review large volumes of data to identify gaps, and support reasoned assessments.Liaise with internal and external stakeholders regarding case status, progression and expertise.Accurately and thoroughly maintain correspondence and records.Prepare sound, robust and evidence-based security assessments of the highest standard.As an AE4 Security Assessor, you will:Support your team by facilitating assessment processes.Use information from a variety of sources to conduct initial assessments and identify potential threats to security.Engage closely with subject matter experts.Gain exposure to the full breadth of the Organisation's work.As an AE5 Security Assessor, you will:Use information from a variety of sources to conduct security assessments for visas, citizenship, secure access, clearances and special events.Determine whether an applicant poses a threat to Australia's national security should they be granted such access.As an AE6 Security Assessor, you will:Conduct security assessments.Provide support to your team, contributing to effective performance management and capability development for team members.Work closely with the Assistant Director to manage workloads, resourcing and capability development across the team.What you will bringWe invite applications from people with the following attributes: The ability to manage competing priorities and progress assigned work both individually and as part of a team.Commitment to achieving high quality outcomes in a high-volume, dynamic and high-tempo environment.The ability to work as part of a collaborative team.Good judgement and strong interpersonal skills.Excellent attention to detail.Strong oral and written communication skills.The ability to learn and build proficiency across different IT systems and software platforms.Qualifications or experienceFor an AE6 Security Assessor, the following qualifications or experience are desirable, but not essential: Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field.Previous experience in an analyst role.A current TOP SECRET-Privileged Access security clearance.EligibilityTo be eligible for the role, you must be: An Australian citizen.Be assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a TOP SECRET-Privileged Access security clearance.ASIO is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, where all staff are valued and respected. LocationThese positions are located in Canberra and applicants must be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is provided to successful candidates where ASIO requires you to relocate.

Employment conditionsEmployment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
