We are looking for a site-based Environment Advisor to join our HSE team at Rio Tinto Yarwun. In this role you will partner with our operations and stakeholders to champion environmental performance. Reporting to the Superintendent Environment, and working as part of a team of environmental professionals, you will be:
Partnering with Asset teams and stakeholders to support environmental risk managementImplementing and verifying the business' environmental management systemManaging environmental issues, for example fauna/flora, surface water quality, stormwater management, marine environmental management, groundwater quality, emissions to air, clearing/rehabilitation activities and hydrocarbon/contamination management, regulatory approval applicationsProject managing contractors and consultants providing environmental servicesProviding environmental advice in the interpretation of legislation, acts and regulationsPreparing and submitting compliance reports in association with our licence to operateCollating data and submitting reports for internal Rio Tinto and statutory purposesWhat You'll Bring A Bachelor's degree in an Environmental or related discipline with knowledge of key concepts theories and practices related to environmental aspects & impacts, risk management, State and Federal Legislation and environmental management systemsKnowledge of Management Systems ISO 14000 1 and the Queensland Environment regulatory frameworkRelevant industry (large scale mineral processing or chemical manufacturing) or mining experienceDemonstrated experience in executing work with a strong attitude towards safety and improvementExcellent communication and partnering skills with the ability to work independentlyResilience and a dynamic approach to problem solvingWhat We Offer A work environment where safety is always the number one priorityA competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive programComprehensive medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate familyAttractive share ownership planCompany provided insurance coverExtensive salary sacrifice & salary packaging optionsCareer development & education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitionsOngoing access to family-friendly health and medical wellbeing supportLeave for all of life's reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave)Exclusive employee discounts (banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more)Relocation packages where suitable for Australian based citizens onlyWhere you'll be working With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year. Thanks to its 'Industry 4.0' focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto's innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC). Along with Boyne Smelters Limited and Queensland Alumina Limited, our Yarwun Operation supports the local community in a wide range of initiatives through Here for Gladstone.
