The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee is an independent office that provides information and services to the Northern Territory community in the areas of guardianship, advance personal planning, wills and estates, financial management and related matters.
Under the leadership of Beth Walker, the NT's first Public Guardian, you will undertake advocacy for and decision making with adults with impaired decision-making capacity who are involved with the Public Guardian.
Your decision making will be exercised consistently with the requirements and principles of the Guardianship of Adults Act. Your key duties include undertaking complex and urgent decisions for adults with impaired decision making capacity including accommodation, access to services, and health care decisions; providing individual advocacy; representing the Public Guardian at hearings before the Northern Territory Civil and Administrative Tribunal and ensuring services are delivered in line with best-practice guardianship.
You will also be expected to follow relevant Northern Territory Government policies and codes of conduct, work, health and safety policies, and meet the legislative requirements of the Guardianship of Adults Act 2016.
To be successful you are required to be tertiary qualified with a relevant degree in Disability and Community Inclusion, Mental Health, Humanities, Social Science, Health Science, Law, Human Rights or Nursing and demonstrate significant experience in managing a complex client caseload and the ability to interpret and apply the Guardianship of Adults Act 2016 and relevant legislation.
Applications will be assessed against both the P2 and P3 level and offers of employment will be made based on the successful applicant's skills and experience.
