We are Habitat Pets, Australia's most exciting name in retail pet supplies. Established in 2012, Habitat is a proudly independent, fast growing, family-owned business, with five thriving stores located across Melbourne, two new stores set to open in November and a successful online store. 
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a motivated Accounts Officer with payroll experience to join our head office team in North Melbourne. This role is vital in ensuring our financial records are accurate and up to date, while supporting our payroll processes.
Key Responsibilities:  As the successful applicant, the Accounts Officer will provide support across a range of office accounts and administrative functions to ensure the smooth operation of our finance department. 
Your duties will include but not be limited to:
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping and accounting of company accounts (including accounts payable, receivable and payroll)Providing information to our external accounting firm for BAS/IAS preparation Assisting in other tax obligations (including superannuation)Ensure compliance with payroll regulations and tax requirementsAssist in month-end and year-end closing processesCollaborating with management to streamline financial operations Managing multiple email accounts and answering phonesPerforming general/administrative tasks and other duties as required.To succeed in this role you will have:  A high level of accounts payable and accounts receivable process knowledgeExtensive hands-on experience in bookkeeping and payrollProficiency in using Xero cloud-based accounting software, payroll software and Microsoft Office applicationsExcellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial calculationsStrong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlinesAbility to work independently and as part of a teamProblem-solving mindset and ability to analyse and resolve accounting issuesUnderstanding of relevant accounting and tax regulations, compliance standards and industry awardsEffective written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated problem solving skills.If this position appeals to you, then please submit your updated resume and a brief cover letter outlining your skills and experience for this role.
