As the AccessAbility Services Officer you will be responsible for coordinating disability services for students to achieve vocational and educational outcomes.
This position reports to the Student Support Manager.
This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity.
The position will be based primarily at Southbank however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Safety First, Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility and Showing Initiative. Through case management processes identify the individual and collective needs of students with a disability, ensuring case notes, records of meetings, actions and agreements are maintained.  Prepare funding submissions and reimbursement claims, monitor expenditure and prepare regular reports and related documentation. This may include SDS (Skills Disability Support) and DAAWS (Disabled Australian Apprenticeship Wage Scheme) funding. Provide relevant information and advice to prospective students and external agencies as required on how people with disability can access VET pathways.  Assess the needs of prospective and current students with a disability in consultation with students, faculties, carers, support agencies and other stakeholders, and negotiate reasonable adjustments, facilities and assistive technologies as required. Coordinate the selection, supervision and ongoing training of disability support workers employed to provide individualised assistance to students with a disability. This may include, support workers, study coach staff and Auslan interpreters. Review, record and endorse casual pay claims for Manager approval. Develop and maintain networks as a basis for informing and referring students with a disability in the areas of enrolment and financial assistance, orientation, assessment, bridging courses, reasonable adjustments to curriculum, tutoring, study skills, learning support, library services, counselling, employment assistance, and access to assistive technologies . Develop and deliver regular awareness and targeted training programs to inform staff and students of their rights and responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Disability Standards for Education 2005, associated legislation, TAFE Queensland Policies and Procedures and provide details of support services and agencies available to students with disabilities.  Advise and/or participate in other organisation activities to ensure that they are inclusive of students with disabilities, e.g. organisation promotional activities and production of Student Support resources.  Maintain confidentiality of consultations with individuals with a disability, their advocates and/or referral agencies in accordance with the Disabiity Discrimination Act 1992 and Disability Standards for Education 2005. Contribute as required to TAFE Queensland policies and procedures to ensure the access and equity of students with a disability are appropriately included.  Contribute to the achievement of organisational objectives by adherence to and continuous improvement of quality systems and processes. How you will be assessed Within the context of the role description above, the ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:
Achieves positive outcomes with clients with a range of disabilities in an educational, training or employment setting, in particular the ability to assess and counsel clients with disabilities for placement in an educational and training setting. Demonstrates experience and knowledge in developing and managing strategies related to the provision of services to people with a disability, including an advanced understanding of the principles of reasonable adjustment to achieve positive outcomes  Demonstrates knowledge of State and Commonwealth legislation, policies and programs related to the education, training and employment for people with disabilities. Demonstrates ability to coordinate budgets and expenditure to meet budget constraints.  Displays flexibility and responsiveness and has the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment. Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements There are no mandatory requirements for this role.  Note : Proof of qualifications and industry currency/experience to be provided at interview.
