Access Services Technician II - Evenings, Hobart and William Smith Colleges Job Location: Geneva, NY Salary Range or Hourly Rate: $16.65/hr Job Description: The Access Services Technician II performs routine public service tasks supporting the library mission.
Technician must have strong verbal skills, both oral and written; patience and tact while participating in conversations with patrons; computer data entry skills and the ability to work with sophisticated library applications including circulation, reserve, and interlibrary loan software.
Essential Responsibilities Assists the Access Services Coordinator in completing daily evening operations of the Access Services Department.
Performs circulation activities including the charge and discharge of materials to an account, creating and updating records, and generating reports.
Exhibits excellent customer service skills when consulting with patrons regarding their library account.
Performs activities related to course reserves such as creating lists, adding items to lists, removing books from reserve during and/or after the term, and keeping the reserve shelves in order.
Performs preliminary searching needed before processing outgoing interlibrary loan requests.
Performs interlibrary loan lending and shipping activities.
Participates in the development, implementation, and administration of student training tools, and oversees student assistants in a variety of assigned tasks.
Participates in the maintenance of print and microform collections.
Participates in department planning activities.
Demonstrates knowledge for the Colleges' educational philosophy and mission.
Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications Associate degree or equivalent Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent customer service skills Basic computer knowledge and skills and an aptitude to learn new software The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
