Academic Support Coordinator (REW, U18s & English) reports to the Director, Wellbeing & Student Experience. The position provides a high level of support, enhanced student experience and an integrated institutional approach to ensure our students are "RMIT Ready".
Responsibilities
Dates: 26 August to 26 September 2024 (working hours 9 AM - 5 PM)
Use language learning expertise and motivational approaches in 1:1 coaching sessions to help students achieve their language learning goals. Tailor language learning materials and sessions to individual student needs. Plan for 5 weeks of delivery of existing workshops to groups of ELICOS and English Language students (in liaison with Academic Coordinator Foundation Studies) relevant to needs and numbers of students. Schedule workshops in MS Booking system weekly and ensure the times align with coaching appointments. Deliver a range of tailored workshops. Monitor the flagged student spreadsheet, reach out to and prioritise flagged students through class visits, emails and Teams chat messages. Record all student attendances at Academic Support daily, in the teacher referral spreadsheet. Monitor the teacher referral spreadsheet for teacher referrals and reach out to these students through class visits, emails and Teams chat messages. Attend Student Experience & Wellbeing team meetings and other meetings as required. Liaise with Academic Coordinators to monitor flagged and referred students and share information as required across Student Experience, Wellbeing and REW teams. Attend the REW Academic Team meetings that Deputy Director REW organises. Attend and participate in the U18 Community of Practice meeting. About You
To be successful in this position, you'll have:
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma (equivalent to at least 3 years full-time study in duration). Qualifications at Post-Graduate Diploma level or higher in Applied Linguistics, TESOL or Education which satisfies ELICOS National Standards and other relevant accrediting body requirements. Well-developed understanding of current teaching, learning and assessment theory and practice. Ability to effectively liaise with Educators and respond to their emerging needs by developing student-centred strategies that address skills gaps and enable academic progression. Knowledge of ELICOS, as well as significant track record with development of curricula and individual learning plans based on individual student needs assessment Significant experience in teaching English to international students.
