The Institute of International Studies (TIIS) is a growing accredited Institute of Higher Education (Provider No: PRV14085). About the Position TIIS is seeking an experienced Academic Director, who is responsible for providing visionary leadership and strategic direction for the academic operations of the Institution. This includes fostering academic excellence, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and creating a dynamic learning environment for students. The Academic Director should possess strong management and academic leadership skills to drive TIIS to further success. This is a "hands-on" role working closely with the CEO and the Academic Board.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the CEO to develop and implement the Institution's academic vision and strategic plan.
Lead the development and maintenance of academic policies and systems, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
Represent the Institution in the wider community, building relationships with industry, government, and professional bodies.

Academic Quality and Standards: Work closely with the Chair of the Academic Board to maintain and enhance academic standards.
Oversee the accreditation of courses and programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Facilitate the continuous improvement of the Institution's academic offerings.

Faculty Development and Support: Guide and mentor program coordinators, providing professional development opportunities.
Conduct performance reviews and evaluations of academic staff.
Facilitate academic appointments and oversee teaching and learning practices.

Student Experience: Lead initiatives to enhance the student experience and retention rates.
Foster a respectful and supportive learning environment for all students.
Oversee initiatives that promote student success and well-being.

Scholarship and Research: Encourage and support academic research and scholarship among faculty members.
Identify and secure opportunities to advance scholarly pursuits and contribute to the wider academic community.

Operations and Management: Contribute to the smooth day-to-day management of academic operations.
Manage assigned budget and resources effectively.
Identify and mitigate academic risks, adhering to the Institution's risk management plan.

Additional Responsibilities: Assist the CEO on any academic matters as needed.
Engage in teaching and scholarly activities as appropriate.
Undertake any other duties assigned by the CEO.

Qualifications & Experience To be successful in this application, you will need to possess:
A Doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in a relevant field.
A proven track record of senior academic leadership and university/tertiary education management, e.g., as Academic Director/Dean.
Strategic leadership and operational management skills to confidently lead future success and growth.
A solid understanding of the tertiary education sector in Australia, as well as higher education quality assurance frameworks and accreditation processes.
Extensive experience in dealing with TEQSA and other Educational Agencies in Australia.
A sound appreciation of the demands of managing a small team in an innovative environment.
Flexibility to navigate the complexities of a developing institution.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire others.
A strong commitment to student success and a positive learning environment.
