GEGAC are implementing the Aboriginal Children in Aboriginal Care Program (ACAC) and require an individual who is competent in overseeing all aspects of case planning, decision making, and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the children authorised to GEGAC.We are seeking someone who is skilled in supervision of Team Leaders and Practice Leaders and someone who is forward thinking in relation to staff development and professional growth.Organisational ProfileGippsland and East Gippsland Aboriginal Cooperative (GEGAC) is a not-for-profit organisation based on Gunaikurnai Country in Bairnsdale, Victoria. GEGAC offers a comprehensive array of holistic, culturally appropriate services across the lifespan of community members—from early years to the elderly. These services are delivered through a wide range of programs, including but not limited to primary health and wellbeing, early years, family support services, alcohol and other drugs services, extended community care and elderly and community services.Position PurposeReporting to the Senior Manager of Extended Community Care, the Program Manager will oversee the operation and ongoing development of Aboriginal Children in Aboriginal Care Program (ACAC). The Manager will oversee all aspects of case planning, decision making, and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the children authorised to GEGAC. The position is responsible for the supervision of Team Leaders and Practice Leader and will ensure opportunity for staff development and professional growth. The position will require travel, afterhours work and will manage an on-call service.Key Selection CriteriaUnderstanding of program management including budget, staff and program development.Demonstrated leadership that leads to a healthy work environment, staff growth and retention and attains best possible outcomes for families and authorised children.Ability to administer children's, Youth and Families Act 2005 as authorised under section 18.Understanding of the administration of legal delegations and ability to review and implement in policy.Ability to build and maintain high quality collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Capacity to make balanced and sound decisions in high-risk and high-pressure situations.Ability to manage crisis situations with a measured and reflective approach.Solid understanding of risk assessment and management in child protection work.Evidence of advanced report writing skills.Ability to work after hours and on call (when required).Skills in providing high quality supervision.Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and ability to apply cultural practice across all aspects of the program.Sound investigative and assessment skills regarding child safety and the ability to lead staff in identifying and responding to safety concerns.Demonstrated knowledge of local Aboriginal community and the role GEGAC plays within our community.Understanding of debriefing and supporting staff through challenging events.Ability to adapt rapidly to changing circumstances and organisational requirements.Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable)Driver Licence ESSENTIALQualification – a recognised Social Work Degree or similar welfare or behaviourally related degree which includes: (a) a primary focus on child development, human behaviour, family dynamics and/or impacts of trauma; and preferably a practical component such as counselling or case work practice. Or A recognised Diploma of Community Services Work, or similar qualification which is studied over a minimum of two academic years of full-time study (or part time equivalent) and includes: (a) a primary focus on child development, human behaviour, family dynamics and/or impacts of trauma (b) supervised fieldwork placements (ideally completed within the child and family welfare sector) and at least one unit of study in case management, case work practice or counselling.
