Location: Parramatta and StatewideEmployment type: Temporary Full-Time role up to 30 June 2026Salary: $125,693.00 pa - $138,510.00 pa, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loadingThis position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people onlyYour roleThe Aboriginal Commissioning Team will sit in the Partnership directorate that is overall responsible for building strong relationships between DCJ and its service providers.
The team will report directly to Policy and Practice.
The role of the Aboriginal Commissioning Team will be to facilitate engagement with the sector and communities in order to increase the number of ACCOs in line with Closing the Gap Priority Reform 2: Building the community-controlled sector.What You'll DoThe role focuses on enhancing the Department of Communities and Justice's (DCJ) capacity to commission services for Aboriginal communities and support the growth of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs).
Key responsibilities include:Providing evidence-based advice to stakeholdersPreparing culturally informed commissioning strategiesAnalysing service delivery gapsManaging multiple projects and advising on commissioning processesAddressing challenges such as building data analysis capabilities and promoting a shift towards Aboriginal-led commissioningThe Aboriginal Commissioning Team is dedicated to improving outcomes for Aboriginal children, families, and communities by supporting the growth and sustainability of the Aboriginal Community Controlled sector.

The successful candidate will join a supportive team that values diversity and is committed to creating positive change.What We're Looking ForIn addition to meeting the essential requirements, the successful candidate must have:Experience working in partnerships with Aboriginal Community Control Organisations, Peak bodies, and Aboriginal Communities in planning and designing services and programs.Project Management Skills:Proven experience in managing and supporting projects, including preparing reports and briefs, coordinating resources, and maintaining project documentation.Communication Skills:Strong ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholdersAbility to facilitate the exchange of information and respond to enquiries promptlyTime Management and Prioritisation:Demonstrated ability to deliver a range of project management and support services within tight deadlines.Skill in managing competing priorities effectivelyThe successful candidate must demonstrate cultural capability and meet the essential requirements for this identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander role.As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons, Australia's First Nations people.Where a position is identified, an applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification under the exception in Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.RoleThere are two alternatives to confirming your Aboriginality, one of which must be uploaded to be considered for the role as follows.
