Aboriginal Research Assistant - Ear Health Pursuant of Section 50(d) ofthe Equal Employment Opportunities Act 1984, the occupant of this position mustbe of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent The Opportunity The aim of our Ear Health team here at theTelethon Kids Institute is to understand the causes of childhood hearing loss,including otitis media (middle ear infections). We work to identify how big theproblem is and look at ways to reduce the impact of the disease.
An integral link for our team is theAboriginal Community Advisory Group which guides the team in working in aculturally sensitive manner and provides direction to ensure the programis relevant and appropriate for their communities. We now have an opportunityfor an Aboriginal Research Assistant to join the team and help us do thisimportant work.
You will work incollaboration with the Djaalinj Waakinj (Listening, Talking) team and theAboriginal Community Advisory Group to undertake research within the DjaalinjWaakinj Centre for Ear and Hearing Health. Your focus will be on liaising withcommunity groups and organisations to talk about our research and engage withfamilies in our study. This will include enrolling participants into our study,conducting general ear health assessments as well as data entry.
You will also play an important role inproviding a cultural lens to the project team and provide input on our ways ofworking and methods to ensure we work in a culturally secure manner.
Some of your responsibilitieswill include:
Assist with the organisation of clinics, community forums and events. Recruit and enrol children into the study and conduct ear health assessments. Build and retain a professional rapport with participants and their families. Assist the team to determine best ways to increase referrals into the study. Based in Cockburn,WA we are offering a full-time contract until the end of 2025, with thepossibility of further extension. We are open to discussing part-time hours(min. 3 days per week) with the successful candidate.

The key to your success in thisrole will be your experience in the following:
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner Cert 4 or equivalent experience.  Demonstrated experience in Aboriginal community engagement inthe Perth Metropolitan area and building relationships with families toensure family involvement in research. Someunderstanding and experience in undertaking research projects and/orproject coordination. Well-developedorganisational skills and attention to detail, including a demonstratedability to set goals manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Well-developedverbal and written communication skills. Soundcomputer and word processing skills. More details can be found inthe job description.
