Flinders and Upper North Local Health Network, Nursing and Midwifery Services, Port AugustaSalary: $76,561 - $80,256 p.a - Temporary Full Time (up to 30 June 2025) - OPS4 The RoleThe Aboriginal Family Birthing Program is dedicated to enhancing birth experiences and outcomes for Aboriginal women and their families through culturally tailored care.
This program offers a seamless journey from antenatal to postnatal care, ensuring continuous family support for up to six weeks after birth.Our Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Care (AMIC) Practitioner plays a pivotal role within a dedicated health care team of midwives and doctors, providing comprehensive antenatal, birthing, and postnatal services.
The program focuses on: Making essential services readily available to Aboriginal women and their families.Helping families navigate and link to community resources and referral services.Ensuring services and practices meet cultural needs with the utmost respect and safety.Supporting the mental and emotional health of families throughout their journey.Contributing to research and practices that address culturally specific needs of pregnant women and their families.Participating in the creation and refinement of health policies and procedures.Crafting and assessing educational initiatives to promote better health outcomes.
The AMIC Practitioner will deliver care across various settings, including hospitals, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, and home visits, ensuring that each family receives personalized and compassionate support.To be applicable for this role you must: have a certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice (HLT40213)hold the Maternal and Infant Care Skill Set – Clinical (HLTSS00031) under the Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (HLT50213).be registered/eligible for registration as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia and who holds/is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
