The primary function of the Aboriginal Mental Health Liaison Officer is to assist, support, and advocate for safe access and culturally appropriate provision of care to Aboriginal people accessing GV Mental Health and Wellbeing Services and requiring treatment for Social Emotional Wellbeing.
This is an identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander role that works directly with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander adult patients to access mental health services.
The Aboriginal Mental Health Liaison Officer is located within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Unit at GV Health and links with mental health clinicians in the interest of patient care, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander patients and their carers and family members, other Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officers, including a statewide network of Aboriginal Mental Health and Hospital Liaison Officers, and local mental health services.
Minimum Requirements:Extensive understanding of Aboriginal culture, society, and kinship networksDemonstrate an understanding of the issues surrounding Mental Health treatmentDevelop and maintain communication and professional networks with the Aboriginal community and mainstream servicesRelevant qualification or equivalent training in mental health or healthPlease note: Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are eligible to apply.
