About the OpportunityKAMS now has an opportunity for a Aboriginal Health Worker to join their friendly, multidisciplinary team in Bidyadanga Community on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Health Centre Manager, you will be required to provide primary health care, including clinical care to clients in the health centre and is responsible for providing support to doctors, nurses, and other allied health staff as well as the community in order to maintain and promote health care.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Screen patients and treat according to Kimberley and/or CARPA protocols or refer the client to a more senior health worker, nurse, or doctor.Participate in screening and treating patients e.g. adult health checks and team care arrangements according to Kimberley and/or CARPA protocol.Provide culturally appropriate health care to meet the needs of the community.Participate in relevant local community projects and groups that aim to increase general awareness of health-related issues impacting on the community.Assist doctors, nurses, and other health professionals with communication, treatment, and any advice relevant to a client's treatment.The ideal candidate will be a Aboriginal Health Worker - Certificate IV, who is registered or is eligible for registration with AHPRA. You'll have the demonstrated ability to support all health centre and program activities by completing clinical care items required prior to seeing the doctor. These include routine investigations e.g. weight, BP, BMI, foot checks, urine collection, taking bloods, and also providing education on managing risk factors.
Ideally, you would have lived and/or worked as an Aboriginal Health Worker in a remote area previously, with a commitment to the principles of an Aboriginal community controlled health service and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team. A high level of integrity and a dedication to maintaining patient confidentiality will ensure you flourish in this position.
Experience with clinical database systems and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel will be highly regarded. Due to the nature of this role, a current manual driver's licence with the capacity to drive a 4WD is required.
